Oh yes! The millennial types who have never seen 'real" Notre Dame football as coached by the likes of Holtz, Parseghian, et. all. just love to get on this board and sing the praises of Bryan Kelly and what a great coach he is for only "LOSING" to Georgia by a few points, and how great our defense was against Virginia for all of one and one-half quarters, and so on, and so on, and so on.
With "real" Notre Dame football there are no millennial-type "participation trophies" for just showing up. And that's about all we've seen from Kelly's teams for 10 years. Show up, play like your half asleep, lose a national championship game in 2013 BADLY, and embarrass yourselves in a playoff game even worse in 2018.
So to you millennial types here's the bottom line... Kelly hasn't got a fucking clue what Notre Dame football is all about. And apparently, neither do you!
day coach. Remember those seasons though when the talent was starting to dry up like 94, and 95? Not so much then. Why do you think Lou left?
Kelly isn’t 1/10th the coach that Lou was. But Lou had some less than stellar seasons too and also shit the bed in 91 with a hugely powerful team. Got embarrassed by PSU and also by the UT comeback at home.

I have been watching Notre Dame Football since 1966, so I clearly remember the good, the bad, and the ugly. Ara provided Notre Dame fans with some great memories. I also suffered through seasons where USC routinely kicked his ass every time he went out to the west coast after he beat them in 1966. I also remember that beating that Nebraska laid on him in the Orange Bowl. Oh, and by the way, how about those mediocre Purdue teams that beat him 3 years in a row and every other year after that. And then there is St. Lou. I will certainly acknowledge that he brought Notre Dame back from the dead. But I guess we all forgot about those two ass kickings he suffered on New Year's Day to Texas A&M and Colorado, in 1988 and 1995. Then there was the Tennessee debacle of 1991 at home where he blew a 31-7 lead, only to be unable to get his team ready to play the next week at Penn State where they were embarrassed 34-13. And let's compare this years Georgia game with the Miami game of 1989 where a #1 ranked Holtz team was completely dominated by Miami. I would think that it is fair to say that Kelly's team this year did a much better job in a hostile environment than Holtz did with probably much more talent in the Orange Bowl in 1989. If I want to really play devil's advocate, I can make the case that if the 1988 Miami game were played today, it probably would have went into overtime, (by the way Holtz never won an overtime game at ND) possibly denying him of any National Championships. This is not intended to trash Ara or Lou. But merely to point out how immature and insane it is to deny that Kelly is probably the best thing that has happened to Notre Dame Football since Holtz left. It 's not as though I think the guy is perfect. He does some shit that leaves me scratching my head. I probably curse and criticize him for many of the same reasons everyone else on this board does. But I also experienced these same feelings about Ara, Lou , and every other Notre Dame coach since 1966.
Good post but the overtime comment is disingenuous. Overtime in College Football started in 1995, Holtz's last season was 1996.

One minor quibble, however....that 89 Miami game was a far cry from being dominated. Much closer than the score would indicate. I’ve had nightmares of 3rd and 44 ever since.
I was in the Orange Bowl that night.
Where to even start with this?
- your weird obsessive hate for Kelly remains, as noted before, indicative of serious issues
- the defense was lethargic? I have no idea what game you believe that you watched. Did you watch a game, even?
- UVA is in fact a decent team. I am guessing that you don't watch a lot of college football, but this is true.
I'm never going to whine about a 15 point win over a ranked team where the defense was dominant.
the offense felt uneven, but the win was decisive nonetheless. I think some people are so in the habit of complaining about BK's obvious deficiencies that they overstate their case at times...
lose 3 or more games in 7 of his 11 years. I guess it was good for selective memory that he got 3rd-ranked West Virginia for his championship game rather than an all-time great Alabama team.
in 10 years. In other words, no comparison.
