I think Book is playing horrible so far this year. So it was just striking to me how bad Lawrence’s sophomore slump is. Especially with all of the talent on their team, elite WRs, elite RBs and elite coaching.
Pick your rating system, they all make different assumptions. All in all, it is a fun with numbers exercise which doesn't really mean squat.
The real question is who would you rather have qb'ing your team?
That’s IF you ignore last year.
But you and a handful of other worshipers might be the only folks that wouldn't swap Book for Lawrence in a nanosecond.
By the way, those QBR ratings from ESPN are 2019 #s. The 2018 numbers were Lawrence = 8, Book = 12. And to show you how empty these numbers are as a predictor of quality in qbs, Shea Patterson = 8 in 2018 and 62 in 2019.
The frustrating thing re: Book is that people assumed he would get better, that he would be a better qb. Thus far in 2019, he isn't. And we'll see how he fares against USC and Michigan.

"Ian Book's numbers are better than Trevor Lawrence this year"...
????
Lawrence has gone from 8 to 14 while Book as gone from 12 to 41.
You can spin the numbers anyway you want, but in completion %, TD/INT ratio, YPA, and TDs, Book’s numbers are better or equal in all of those categories. That is fact and unarguable. Are there any more important stats to consider?
And you call me a “worshipper” while the exact opposite is true. I’m on record going back to last year as NOT being an Ian Book supporter. As such, my posts were in no way intended to prop him up.
YPA.
I got that from ESPN too. Didn’t look at your link.

And that's true for both of them.
In fairness to Ian though, he lost Kmet and Young during camp, lost Armstrong during the first series against Louisville, and never had Kevin Austin. That's a lot of weapons down. Lawrence hasn't had that issue, so I'm not really sure what's going on there.
My only point is that it’s not as bad or unusual as people are making it out to be. They always seem to have this misguided idea that everything is perfect at the “top” programs.

...but even bigger and faster. He looked amazing against ND and Bama in the playoffs last year. Didn't get rattled, huge arm, etc. What happened?

with those terrible stats.
Yes...Lawrence and Book are practically identical.

QB prospect. Look at the upcoming QBs objectively no great prospects, because Kelly is Kelly, we might not see a QB better than Book for a decade
Jurkovec - good prospect
Clark - average prospect
Pyne - average prospect
Buchner - good prospect

on how Clemson handles a struggling QB vs. ND.
I'd guess Clemson runs the ball more and gives TL easy success throws for awhile.
BK's approach to a struggling QB has been to throw more on his plate and try to get him to throw his way out of the funk. Hasn't worked once. Will he continue to do this? History says yes.
