As a freshman at the school of our Lady I stood all game long in the stadium on a frigid late October afternoon in 1964 chanting "Remember." The year before USC had ruined Ara's first perfect season with a blown goal line penalty call and a list minute touchdown pass after our d back slipped. They came to South Bend undefeated, #1, and with that year's Heisman winner (and future disgraced Trojan AD), Mike Garret. Ara let them wait on the field for several gelid moments before the Irish entered... and then we simply ran over them for 60 minutes. There were no memorable plays in the entire game... just Larry Conjar grinding out 4 yarder after 4 yarder after 4 yarder. It wasn't as glorious a scene as our Catholics beating the Pig Faced Satan's Convicts in 1988... but in my memory I savor it like a classic Hendry Vineyard Pinot.
