st hasn't been real accurate this year. Maybe he has a tired arm?

His accuracy was a result of short quick read throws. Teams are now challenging that which means tighter windows and initial reads not being open. Teams are blitzing more because he won't take shots down the field and he struggles to see over the middle options.
The answer is running the ball, which they are doing better. Zone Read is embarrassing thought.
Taking more shots, which Book isn't. I do believe those calls and options are there.
Creating an really effective screen game, which is border line criminal.
Do that, ND gets defenses back on their heels and the easy throws open back up.
accuracy was insane last year, regardless of the coverage. I don't disagree with the rest of your post, but he's no longer putting the ball in the middle of the chest. He looks like a receive who can't find the strike zone. It's mechanical, mental or some sort of arm issue.

Then me talking football with you would be like explaining brain surgery to a 2 year old.
When I'm out throwing the ball to pops at the tailgate I can put the ball wherever i want. When I suddenly HAVE to put it through a small window I get a lot less accurate. Unless I'm special. I'm not special. Book is not special.
You're welcome. As always, I miss coaching college ball, but you need some basic knowledge for me to provide you any value.
wide open, then he really shouldn't be playing QB. By your rationale, no baseball pitcher should ever be able to throw a strike against Mike Trout. If you, personally, only can put the ball where you need it when it doesn't matter, then you better pick up a different sport.
I think Book is doing an effective job with what he has. He just doesn't have arm strength which is exhibited in more than just downfield passing. For example, the quick passes to the outside wrs take a long time to get there allowing dbs to close and shut down the play. There was another downfield play, don't recall whether it as Claypool or Kmet, where the ball was on target but it took a long time to get there allowing the db to close down and breakup the pass. The problem wasn't recognition and timing as much it was just it took too long. This is even more obvious in person when you see a rather pedestrian USC qb get it there on similar plays so much faster due to superior arm strength.
It is always going to be his, and the offense's, limiting factor. In a lot of ways, Book is this year's Joe Schmidt: effective at his job but not going to scare anyone which hinders top level play.

quality college QBs with shitty arm strength; Danny Wuerffel is the poster child for this group. Beyond his accuracy, I question the design of the passing game more than anything.
I agree that the poor design of the passing game is a chronic Kelly issue and limits the offensive output. I am not "down" on Book who does well with what he has but his lack of arm strength is visibly apparent when you see it live against talented teams like USC and limits the offense even more.
The problem for me is that if Book is the "best" qb on this roster next year, it shows an extreme lack of getting the right qb and/or not developing the qbs we do get. If we have a stud running game, we could get away with a qb with Book's arm talent. But as you will see with Wisconsin when they pay OSU, an average qb only goes so far at the elite football level. We will never really compete for a NC with a qb with the overall talent level that Book has.
bill.
I don’t understand why people keep referring to it as Brian Kelly’s offense. It’s been three years.
Is it also Brian Kelly’s defense?
