Currently there is one in the top 15, 2 in the top 20. And if we beat Michigan, there will be 1 in top 20. And we would have lost to that 1 team.
When it comes down to it, that is what matters. And those secondary teams aren't going to match up any better re: our SOS than the other teams we are dreamingly "in competition" with for a playoff slot.
FYI, re: SOS, ESPN has us currently at 61, Sagarin at 38.
Face the reality: our playoff chances just about disappeared when we lost to Georgia and did disappear when Georgia lost.
Glad to see there are some people with some shred of reality in them......
No one questions the fact we can easily get to 11-1

Virginia Tech looks like a dumpster fire.

So he has a point on that.

The committee needs a reason to put them in. A bunch of close wins means a whole lot has to go right.
What will you do if they win out and make it in?
I think there’s a better than even chance they make playoffs if they win out. One loss away, early in season, at night, to an SEC blue blood. And there’s plenty of neutral observers who agree.
Maybe on here but not in real life
Lots of OTHER things have to happen even when we win out
We will win out so I am as big a homer as anyone on that
But after the way we shut the bed last year, and now with one loss and a weak schedule, likely less than 15% chance
Florida jumped us...
And while last year isn’t supposed to count, our two prior experiences have been, to put it charitably, less than impressive.
When you look at teams above ND, they can’t all stay above a 11-1 Irish team. If we win out, the way things look now, we won’t have any signature wins. That’s a given now. But many higher ranked teams play each other. Their records will suffer.
If we win out, we will have navigated a power 5-heavy schedule, hopefully pretty convincingly by the close of the season. Dan Miller brought up our opponent records earlier, and he had a good point. We haven’t beaten any legitimate contenders, but plenty of strong teams. SOR has been the strongest indicator of a playoff spot, and ours is pretty respectable so far and will only get better if we win out.
It will hurt to not play in a conference championship
It will hurt that few of the teams we play will wind up ranked
Also there will be one loss teams (like LSU or Alabama) who will get in before us
You seem to be assuming that there will be other 1 loss teams and we will be the best.....
Like I said, less than a 15% chance.....
