Im still perplexed as to why davie was ever hired in the first place? It took us so long to get back to respect under Brian (2012)
I just don't understand why davie? And not an established coach like Alvarez who had experience. @the time ND had to be an attractive top 5 job , It's my understanding they interviewed Barnett at Northwestern but he simply wasn't interested in notre dame.... After davie then the willingham and weis fiasco.
Apparently hesburgh pushed Leahy out and we paid the price for 15 years till Ara........was a similar process under way post Holtz ? Or was it simply an inept AD in wadsworth with no vision, once the train started down mediocrity it took another 15 years for Brian to fix things.
It's sad seeing what happened to kansas, Washington and now new Mexico football, all inept coaches hired post ND
parachute agreement in his contract. Thus the one year bonus extension.
every coach ND hires is low dollar compared to other head coaches at other schools!
My son attended ND when Bob Davie was coach. We were at a party in his dorm room, in attendance was a person from the AD office. He said Bob was given the head coaching job because he was good at sucking up to the likes of Malloy, and that Davie told them that he wouldn’t recruit any players who they (AD staff) thought would embarrass the likes of Malloy.
The Final Stop on the Bob Davie Farewell Tour,
Some ABC reporter after the game asked Davie after the game if he was going to be fired, Priceless!
pushed Holtz out when Lou was stressed out. We haven't had a coach since who brought the whole package, from demanding attention to details to understanding how you make a team greater than the sum of its parts. You could say the same thing for the successors to Fr. Hesburgh, and therein lies the root of the problem.
That didn’t work so well, financially. At least he learned where the money came from back then and repented to some extent. But none of his successors care. They figure money will keep pouring in even if football disappears.
