he gone. He was probably hoping all the coaches would grovel at his feet and beg him to stay---perhaps due to lack of quality depth at QB. Since that didn't happen, he be outta here.
He had his chance to outshine Ian, and didn’t by all accounts.
Again, perhaps the change of scenery will help him.
This wasn't a trial balloon thing...he intends to leave ND.
There are always multiple factors, but there were going to be four quarterbacks on campus in the spring, with a set in stone incumbent starter ahead of PJ. Some one was going to leave, with PJ being the most likely. All this stuff about bridges burned, if Book decided to leave, PJ probably stays and starts.
in line to start in 2021. That is not consistent with the use of Jurkovec last season. If you assume that the staff concluded there was likely no future for Jurkovec as starter at ND and that there was for Brendon Clark and that they wanted to protect Clark's redshirt, then all the "inexplicable" things about the use and non-use of Jurkovec last season makes sense: mop-up duty. I believe you will see a very different use of Clark next season. You will see prep for taking over in case of injury to, or poor performance from, Book in 2020 and for starter -- assuming he is not overtaken by Drew Pyne -- in 2021.

decision to enter the portal is not well thought out. Having said this, I hope he tears it up elsewhere.
He has a good shot to play in 2021
