The first thing I'd want as newly appointed OC would be to launch Jeff Quinn into outer space somewhere and tell Kelly to find me the best OL coach he can get his hands on, and I'd ask for that coach to have rock solid running schemes along with preferably some level of NFL experience.
I read on NDn (occasionally they post good info there) that Rees was seeking to change the run blocking schemes Long had. So if that's true, that should bode well.
and not that they simply don't put the practice time in to be a strong running team?
Hard to imagine they can be as good as they are in pass pro and have as many assignment errors, by OL, TE's and RB's, as they do if they are practicing run game as much as passing game.
If it were one OL or one TE or one RB continually making the errors, I'd agree it's the players or coaches. But it's an OL missing an assignment this play, a TE missing his block that play and the RB missing a huge hole the next play. Different coaches coach each of those groups. So who's to blame?
To me it screams this is a team that doesn't practice the running game enough to be a consistently strong running team. The talent's there, but seems the intention is missing.
he could sit down with Taylor and Quinn and get them to adopt a scheme that fits the skill set of the players (RB's) that we have. This would change the blocking scheme up and Would expect improvement.

I’d like to see a similar performance in run blocking. We shall see.
