Think football will be ok
By summer there should be enough treatment, therapies, beds, testing and herd immunity that this will be well under control.
The virus will still be here, but we will be able to handle it. People won’t be entertained by watching 24/7 news on the virus anymore so I don't think there will be the same level of "judging" of hosting a sporting event.
People will be demanding some "normal".
Interesting that the Indy500 was moved from May to mid-August today

At this point, it's probably best that CFB not happen...
For various reasons. Many unis are close to bankruptcy even without this pandemic. If they lose a large number of on campus students, then it'll be tits up. It would be no surprise if some opponents won't have the means to open their doors if everything is forced to go on line.
Second, would advertisers be willing to continue to sponsor games that few people attend? I don't think so, especially local advertisers that network affiliates are deeply dependent. Lots of people losing jobs, clients, business. How are those folks going to have the capacity to attend games? Attendance has been falling for several years, this will greatly accelerate the trend.
Third, it seems we're just getting started with the pandemic and resulting economic depression. NYC is on total lockdown, Los Angeles is seemingly a few days away from that situation as well. Don't give me itsjustdaflubro bullshit. The most important American city doesn't go on full quarantine because of a bad case of the flu. Something else is going on, and it would be no surprise if most unis/colleges don't open next fall. Football won't mean much under those circumstances...
I don't think you should use the Olympics as a barometer of what to expect as it relates to football
Yes they were scheduled not long before the kickoff of the 2020 season, but the Olympics are apples and bowling balls compared to CFB.
You're talking about planning to bring in people from 150+ countries into once space without knowing what the pandemic will look like in the months to come. It's not something you can make a last minute call on. They're forced to make a decision now.
Not that football games/seasons don't require a massive amount of coordination, but it's easier to pull off than the Olympics. They have more flexibility on tweaking schedules, etc.

I think it's 50/50 right now.
Remember there's billions invested in college football and the NFL. They will play with limited practice/pre-season, if needed.
