It's over. Shipley to Clemson. Just like that.
For countless months, ND did their best possible job to recruit him. Tremendous amounts of time and tremendous amounts of money. Phone calls, texts, special video highlights, visits, plans to show how they would use him and make him the next McCaffrey, etc.
All to no avail.
But what about the idea of grown men pandering themselves to woo a teenager? For months and months? How demeaning is that? You will do anything, you will say anything to get an upper hand.
Then, he dumps you at the end of all those efforts. You are filled with f- bombs and rage, but of course, you keep it to yourself. But, how can you look at yourself in the mirror?
Never mind, get back on the trail. Put on your best face. There are 3 star RBs that you must woo.

You chase your top prospects with your best pitches and pitch men. You get some and you lose some. That's part of the business, and hopefully you've done enough thorough evaluations and cast a wide enough net to cover your needs.
His words, not mine. The best ND can say to that is something along the lines of "we feel we're building something really special," blah blah blah
Does Shipley want the bona fide champion with a proven commitment to win? Then the answer is clear where he should go. We're used to going with the B plan, so that's par for the course.
A top NFL running back
That combined with winning championships at Clemson says it all.....

Woodstock commented that kids don't go to ND to be a top NFL RB. Then you stated that Lou produced a few. That's correct, he did. But my point is that that was so long ago and the situation is so different now that it is almost irrelevant what Lou did. Kids coming out of HS today have little more knowledge of that time than they do of Rockne or Leahy. So yes, implying that ND should be able to get the top tier RBs because Lou was able to, is a bit of an overstatement.
That being said, I'm not making a stand that ND can not or should not be able to get 5 star players. Kelly has been too deficient in this part of his recruiting. If that is your stance as well, then we agree on that.
