There are a few things about the passing game that are bothersome.
1.Why can Jurkovec have such a nice day passing against the same team that Book didn't have much success passing against? I mean, Book has a century of experience compared to Jurkovec who couldn't throw a decent pass to save his life at a Blue and Gold Notre Dame scrimmage.
2. Why didn't Notre Dame practice throwing and catching the ball in the second half of the USF game when the game was basically already won? After seeing a rather poor performance through the air vs Duke, why didn't Book throw more to practice what was the biggest weakness in the first game? The coaching staff should have called more plays through the air. McKinley and Lenzy aren't exactly incompetent. The low number of passes caught by actual receivers in that game is alarming. It's almost tempting to look at the record books to see if it is a new record.
3 Why haven't we seen a smidgeon of improvement from Book since last year? His weakness is the long ball, and, if I remember correctly, he has not yet attempted one this year.
4. Why haven't the press people asked these questions yet? I would love to have these questions answered cuz I have no idea what the answers are.
This cannot continue if ND aspires to become an elite team. Any decent coach with a team that has talent will load the box and dare ND to throw the ball vertically. No offensive line or running back can have success running against such a strategy. Let's hope the passing game gets going next week, before the going gets tough.
r that wasn’t supposed to even happen. He then went backward. Something goes on with time at the QB role under Kelly at ND.
Book ranks 49th out of 61 quarterbacks through two games this season (PFF).
Against USF, only 4 passes were thrown to receivers. That's 1 pass per quarter
