Interesting how he went from trying and failing to coach Golson at ND to head coach of the Packers.
To be fair it was not his nor Kelly’s fault although Kelly took the blame from Irish fans. Under LeFleur, Golson started like a Heisman candidate to being replaced by Zaire. Same thing happened to Golson at FSU- started like gangbusters for 6 games then went to Hell.
On the other hand, ND fans hated Rees as QB coach and then OC, but evidently he has not done too bad with the QB he had to work with.
Go figure. I guess coaching focused, competitive QBs is easier than coaching fragile head cases.
As a QB coach, most folks here think that Brian Kelly could have done better, especially after Brandon Wimbush couldn't get over his case of the yips in 2017. However, after 2018, and the emergence of Ian Book, I doubt anyone here had any hard feelings about that.
As the offensive coordinator? A lot of us here were more reserved about that, preferring that someone with more experience step in, but since he had been around Brian Kelly for many years, I don't think you saw many folks who truly hated the decision.
