Two in a row. Just a few weeks ago they were still a trendy dark horse pick for some of the pundits as a CFP contender (despite struggling to beat UCLA). FPI projected Oregon with better than 85% likelihood of winning against both Oregon State and Cal earlier in the season. Guess you don't count your ducklings before they hatch.

Haven't "been there before." That was a huge win for a program like CC.
Rather than aggressively making a statement. Lame
Nobody went head-hunting. Wilson was just standing there. Someone could have leveled him if they wanted to. They pushed him around and pancaked him. The first guy actually did a good job of getting in front of him and engaging in a block. It’s only an issue because he’s a QB, and QBs are treated like porcelain dolls these says. I wouldn’t complain if a flag was thrown based on how QBs are patrolled in this era, . . but I continue to not think it was a big deal. After the INT, the QB is a guy to be blocked, even double teamed. He’s a football player, and not a defenseless one.
And not that I don't agree QBs are super protected now and should be blocked, esp if they're pursuing the play. This just seemed like overkill regardless
Wilson was just standing there after the INT, but that makes him fair game in my book. If the DB with the INT had broken another tackle, Wilson would have been the last line of defense to a pick 6, . . kind of like kicker sometimes is on a KO return that breaks out. I don't doubt that the CCU players, at least the second guy involved, went after him precisely because he was the QB. But they blocked him, and blocked him, and ultimately pancaked him. In the old days, someone would have lit him up (like Stams did to Peete -- a blind side missile to the chest and, I note, a pounce upon the carcass to boot by Frank). If one of the CCU players really wanted to hurt Wilson, they could have leveled him with a head of speed. They didn't. If Wilson wants to run off the field after an INT to make sure that doesn't happen . . . more power to him. But if he stands in the middle of the field, he probably should expect to be blocked. I am curious to see the reaction the first time Sarah Fuller gets blocked during a kick return. I'm sure the world will be outraged if anyone hits her hard or puts her on the turf. Like I've said repeatedly, I guess times have changed. I wouldn't have complained if there was a penalty against CCU . . . I get how protected QBs have become. But I still do not see the big deal, and I can't in good conscience condemn CCU for a "lack of class," given my history as a Fightin' Irish fan who loved to see guys like Zorich, Stonebreaker, and Stams mix it up and flash the attitude. I fully understand that other people are seeing it differently. So I'm not trying to persuade at this point. But I've watched it several times now, and I still don't think it amounts to much. One man's opinion.
The unnecessary double team all the way to the ground and beyond on the BYU QB. The in your face taunt on a Carolina TD directed at a BYO defensive player. All reminiscent of 1980s Miami Hurricanes. The Carolina QB look at me show. Young man acted like he never ran for a first down before. Cincy vs Coastal Carolina for the right to be pretend considered for the play-offs.
Not going to lie, seeing the thing with the QB . . . my first thought was Frank Stams and Rodney Peete. Didn't see the rest. Not much concerned with it. As I said, they really have never been there before. Not surprising they didn't act like they had.

The flagrant double team by Coastal was enough to empty the benches and order had to be restored. The BYU QB threw a pick and two Coastal dudes decide they are going to double team and rough up the QB to the ground, and then some. It got even more 1980s Miami Hurricane from there.
The only difference I see between the CCU “flagrant double team” and the classic Stam's destruction of Peete is that Stam’s shot was much more devastating. I kind of remember an ND tunnel fight that season being considered “attitude.” Guess times have changed.

Isn’t a big deal to me. I can’t get worked up about blocking the QB after an INT. You and the BYU bench are free to, of course. But it is kind of rich for ND fans to call out it and an on field scuffle as CCU lacking class or whatever. ND has plenty of the same in its history — most of which tends to be fondly remembered on fan boards. Maybe it is an “eye of the beholder” thing. And, like I said, I guess times have changed. Stams destroying Peete and ND fighting in the tunnel used to be called “attitude.”

And many would reminisce about that great time when Frank Stams skull smacked Rodney Peete on the way to a NC. Eye of the beholder. I get why BYU players got their dander up, . . I just don’t think it was a big deal. If that play and the subsequent scuffle make CCU “classless,” then ND’s last championship team was a classless champ. I think CCU is getting the “don’t get uppity” treatment to some extent. And, again, I guess times have changed.
