He said there are a lot of players on Syracuse's defense that can't compete with him in the weight room, even though he is almost 60 years old. He then said they have to get stronger over the next nine months and they will be very good. I'm not sure it was a very politic thing to say. Even though he spoke highly of his team's effort and character, etc., etc., this remark has a feel of "throwing them under the bus" to me.

I'm fine with it. They have a long winter of work ahead. He praised their effort, and just demanded they step up.
I can bench far more at 52 than I could at 22. Still, maybe he needs to upgrade his S&C program.
