reminds me a little of a longer leaner Ricky Williams

Good athlete with effective but not overwhelming speed whose physicality and balance define is style.

I could see with his height and strength developing a lethal stiff arm. What I saw on film was good, but seemed more to be used to just keep the tackler off of him. Love to see him use it as more of a blow to punish the D.

More Cedric Benson than Ricky.

Cedric Benson was a beast on the field. Saw him in high school...wow.

Think what the Irish could do with a back like that.

...or at least for his size he was (4.5 40)...AE isn't as big as Williams and from what's out there

he doesn't have close to 4.5 speed. He does however show very good game speed in pads, but not like what Williams had.

Big-time pick up. At 6-1 215 reminds of a shiftier Ohio POY Tony Fisher.

Culver was 5'10 225 and ran 4.39 at ND, he's probably a slower version of Jonas Gray pr maybe Tony Fisher

Rodney Culver did NOT run a 4.39. No idea where you got that.

Check out his combine times. Almost 4.7.

He ran a 4.39 and 4.41 during '90 Spring Testing before the injury, he ran poorly at the combine after aggravating a prior injury but ran 4.49 at his Pro day! Just watch him on many of Rockets returns he was pretty damn fast!

Thread Level: 5

4.64 at the combines, but he did run a 4.38 at one time

Rodney Culver was dealing with injuries in 1991.

When fully healthy, he did run a legit 4.40. There were times in 1989 that he did some spot starting at split end.

The link mentioned may help jog some memories.

I have no idea what basis they used for reporting that, but he never ran a legitimate 4.38. In the old programs in the 90's Bert Berry's profile listed him at 4.35, and we know that was nonsense.

These self-reported times from high school or hand-timed runs after practice are meaningless. Culver was not a sub-4.4 runner.

Bert Berry was about 218 in HS but he was running mid-4.4s early in his career at 230 and ran 4.5 at 245, he was around 255 as a Pro and still a high 4.5 guy.

I don't think Culver was ever THAT fast...if I recall Waters ran like 4.41 or 4.44 and..

Waters was definitely faster than Culver.

His burst was exceptional, he had great "wiggle" and agility, and got superb leverage for a tall guy. He just didn't have great straight-line speed, but that was irrelevant to his success.

Thread Level: 9

Yep. This is one of the reasons I hate that fans put so much weight on 40 times.

And other standard measures. Lots of great athletes don’t have great 40 times (or bang out 30 reps or whatever).
