Todd Lyght: great player at ND-great player in the NFL-great guy; however, terrible recruiter!
Unfortunately, his legacy has left us woefully short in our defensive backfield.
It is our Achilles Heel.
The other three CFP teams have elite QBs and receivers.
We would like our corners to play man-to-man, but we can't afford it. Witness Shawn Crawford getting abused in the Clemson game.
We have to keep the receivers in front of us with a zone; however, they will find holes in the zone, but that's about the best we can do.
There wasn't much pressure being applied to Trevor Lawrence, and the few times that we did manage to break through, nobody wrapped him up, or someone would lose containment. Lawrence had plenty of time to throw, as well.
If the defensive line can't do its job, no defensive backfield is going to be good enough.
Our defensive line looked sluggish, and wasn't exploding off the line like we were back in the home game.
Clemson's offensive line, though, was looking very sharp, and in excellent rhythm.
Our biggest advantage (the trenches) simply didn't show up on Saturday.
I agree we are lacking and can't wait to get truckload of recruits in that Joseph and Mickens have hustled. Need badass DC who will keep up Lea tradition. Who will it be? Watching NO and KC last night I love to see Ds who are unafraid to post CBs man-up.

While MSU and others have been mentioned, ND is in mix. Always impressed with him.
