In 2005, both Saban (Dolphins) and Meyer (Florida), started at new jobs.
We settled for Fat Chuck, but which one of the other two would have flourished more at ND?
Saban seems like more of a dynasty builder. I think he would have figured out how to use ND’s advantages and influenced the administration to make the types of changes necessary fir sustained success. (Much like Kelly did with Training table for proper nutrition, etc.)
Meyer is a great coach, but always seemed to cut corners and get caught in some type of scandal.
Meyer is great, but Saban is the most adaptable great coach I’ve ever seen at this level. Belichick is the same as a pro coach.
Almost all coaches get stuck in “their” system.
“It’s worked before so it has to work”
Nope, the game changes. Saban could have easily stayed the same, won lots of game, not as many titles, and still been a legend. But he’s adapted. He’s taken big risks. He doesn’t care about his ego and hires guys like Kiffin and Sark because he knows what the bring to a program.
