The difference in talent between Alabama and OSU and the rest of college football is a CHASM. And it will only grow.
If you are a big time prospective medical student you shoot for Harvard Medical School... which picks the cream of the applicants.
If you want an NFL career you want to validate yourself by playing for the Tide, which also picks the cream of the five star applicants.

to 5 years than 70% of college grads in a life time. Hanging on to it use to be a problem but with the leagues using individual financial advisors the situation has gotten a lot better.
Especially for the more intellectually challenged players at some of the football factories. The average NFL career is 3.3 years and the median salary is $860,000. That's $2,838,000 in earnings. Also, don't you have to stay in the league 5+ years to qualify for the pension?
A lot of those players aren't qualified to do much after their football careers are over. I know several who are coaching HS football now. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
On the other hand, if you go to ND and take academics seriously (with a good major), you have the opportunity to make a lot of money. Not in 3 years, but your long-term career will be more lucrative than a guy with a head full of rocks who plays 3 or 4 years in the league. Also, I think NFL minimum salaries are around $450k.
Aura & atmosphere that Bama’s the place to be, for winning on Saturday and Sunday. Lou achieved that somewhat and garnered a couple of top recruiting classes that lead to a NC. And let’s forget the “they could never get into ND anyway”, how many of those players at Bama or even Clemson or OSU would even want to get into ND?
It would be easy enough to compile the data on how well Bama recruits who went to the NFL have done financially. It would be interesting to see and compare the stats with the financial success of ND athletes.

Who called the punt?

kids. We are the fourth to sixth best program but we need an upset to beat the top 3. That is not awful just difficult. You guys seem to forget that we were the top recruiting team with Holtz for about a 4 to 5 year period but he had some marginals get in. To the university's credit they almost all graduated.
