POINTS.
It remains to be seen if Kelly can get over the hump, but I think he's close, and if he can consistently start to sign top 10 recruiting classes (like this year) instead of top 15 classes (like the last several), that may close the talent gap. That said, I expect a small regression in 2021 due to the losses on the OL and at QB.
ND was one top-10 QB and one top-10 receiver away from making this a game against Alabama.
I'm as frustrated as anyone over Kelly's refusal to play potential gamebreakers because they don't "check off all the boxes." If he can make this one final adjustment, we should see greater things. If not, he has reached a new ceiling, although much higher than from 2010-2016.
Which brings me to this: People who don't see that the Kelly of the past four years is a different coach than the Kelly of the previous seven years aren't seeing things accurately. Yes, he needs to evolve one more time. But give him credit for doing things differently since 2016.
so for a another top rated QB. Might just get ND a new home winning record, with beating up a few weakACC teams.

both ways for the future. Home winning % or Bowl defeats Headstone epitaph.
...this going forward.
He is better than any coach since Holtz.
He is also not good enough. ...

And his obstinance is his problem. Jelly (autocorrect made this error, but it’s hilarious so I’m keeping it) says he will keep “banging it”, and I believe him. He will keep banging his head against the wall.
Unfortunately, more than that, the CFP won’t rank a Kelly-led ND team high enough anymore.
It’s time to change. And we need to be very careful about bringing in the right coach.
why bother putting ND in another blowout championship game. We all know what will happen. You can only change that narrative with winning. Without the TV audience ND would never again be considered a competitive championship playoff team.
probably the best team anyone else beat all year. Plus although there was a huge gap to teams 1-3, which I had long said, we were the next best and will always want the chance to compete and possibly beat the best.

be attached to the last 3 seasons.
What took place in '17 was ammo for getting rid of Kelly... the last 3 seasons are ammo for the opposite.
'17 was nothing to be thankful for, it was a huge disappointment...the last 3 seasons, are worth being thankful for and should be the standard going forward, with no exceptions.
loss should not count as one of them. A regular bowl loss, maybe.

we were beat by 18 by a decent Stanford team and beat by like 30 million by a garbage Miami... That was no season to be proud of, that was a season to be furious over.
It in no way (other than Book became starter in the bowl game) reflects the kind of performance we've seen the last 3 years and connecting it only clouds the real picture of how good last 3 years were.
