This hype of Ian Book breaking the total wins record was silly. It's a nice thing for him to have, and it should mean something. But, to imply that he's a better QB than the guys that he passed? No. It means that he was the starter in a lot of games. And it means that he played on pretty good teams, that had more talent than most of the teams they played. Both are good things to recognize, but it shouldn't be used as a number to compare QBs.
It's almost as silly as a baseball pitcher's W/L record. While they both are the most important positions on the field, there are simply too many other factors that go into a win or loss.

Not.... you get the picture.
You can be a great college QB and not have it translate to the NFL. ND is not the only school... look at all the Ohio State QBs who were drafted in the first rounds lately and none of them have panned out.. just one example of many.
Let Book be who he is.... an underdog who seized an opportunity to play QB at Notre Dame and was able to graduate with the most wins in school history. The very reason our teams have had undefeated regular seasons and trips to the College Playoffs, is because of players like Book who get more out of their talent than anyone ever thought. We should celebrate those athletes who excel because of sure grit and hardwork, in spite of their limitations; rather than wishing they were a 5 star. I grew up learning that ND was the ultimate underdog who finds a way to win - that is who we are!
