I have always been for ND to be an Independent as long as they can.

Playing in CA every year is great for recruiting. Being from the midwest is great for recruiting. Making smart decisions about who to fill the schedule from TX or WI or wherever is great for recruiting. Having the NBC contract is great for recruiting.
Just make the playoffs again, establish yourself as one of the top 4, not one of the 4-8 group and we are in a very good place.
Still gonna see 5 ACC teams no natter what.

The idea of playing 9/10 games in the ACC every year would make me puke. I 'd rather play Cal/Wisconsin/ Purdue/Cincinnati ( heck Marshall/ UNLV/Toledo carries as much gravitas has half of the teams in the ACC) than a year-in and year-out schedule that includes the likes of NC State/ WF/ Pitt / Georgia Tech/Syracuse. Heck Marshall/ UNLV/Toledo carries as much gravitas has half of the teams in the ACC. If we went full ACC we'd probably have to give up USC/Stanford every year which again is much preferable to the likes of the 3/4s of the teams in the ACC.
The ACC may be great for ND in all sports except football where it just flat out sucks!
Moving to the ACC full time would be the death knell of ND football. I think it is moot because I suspect there are major changes coming in the alignment of the Power 5 soon anyway.
COVID conference only scheduling. It won't be that way in the future. If in an unfortunate event CFB does go that route I personally will watch a lot less. Conference only is very boring for the most part.
Scheduling 12 games a year was becoming problematic for ND with many conferences going 9 or 10 in house.
I doubt we'd get "better" opponents for those 5 games but a 10 games/year diet in the ACC is downright nauseating.
As a side note: I understand the history but the ship has sailed on playing Navy every year.. We dumped the MSU/Purdue every year. Time to do it with Navy. I 'd rather play 6 in the ACC if that is the trade off.
Navy. Dumb game and reason to play them. BTW. I agree and think I made the point on another post if I had to watch all conference play every year I would probably not watch much CFB anymore. 2020 was totally uninteresting watching a schedule full of regional games where you basically know most of the outcomes before they happen.
Conference play for a full season for any conference is a bad idea.
My point on the 5 vs 6 is to those that hold on to the fact that ND is independent... Not really because they have a requirement to meet which is 1 short of full membership requirement. So, it's not really independent. But, officially it has not been announced (unless I missed it), other than for the 2020 season.
Guaranteed injuries from TO cut blocks.
Conference membership was good for ND and the ACC..However, im already tired of ACC protocols, tired of the ACC controlling game times for road games, tired of being at the whims of the ACC, e'g, cancelling the WF game because they didnt want to order Dabo to Fla to face FSU
ND controls a lot by staying independent and still has the cache to do some dictating..to say nothing of how I missed the USC, Navy, Stanford games...( I know some of you are still against playing Navy) PLUS WHILE SCHEDUING 5 ACC teams, including old time foes like Pitt, BC, still retain flexibility of playing Big 10 FOES LIKE Wisconson, Purdue, plus fit in a Cincy..
I know the day may come for conf membership, but I sure hope not..I know it makes it more difficult to win a natl title, but I love flexibility of scheduling a OSU, Bama coming up..
retaining USC annually and one other lesser "rival" every other year. I don't think it is as important settling for being outside the playoffs in order to win a Bowl game, even if it is a solid bowl game to supposedly give us "momentum" into the next season.
