“ “At the end of the day, LSU is LSU. As a kid growing up you dream of playing at LSU. It’s been a really big dream of mine since I was kid. To see how they produce athletes, and see how they get to the next level easily because it’s the SEC. They call it NFLSU for a reason, because a lot of people get drafted from there,” said Diggs”

Not a knock on Diggs, but ND is over the scholarship limit and already signed Estime, who is the higher-ranked prospect. Also, Tyree, Kyren and C'bo have a lot of eligibility left as all technically redshirted and ND is likely to get a 2022 RB that will also be higher-ranked than Diggs (probably Singleton or Hayden).
The interesting wrinkle is that he supposedly already signed with ND during the early signing period, so ND would need to release him from scholarship. That said, I can't see ND putting up a fuss. If the kid would rather be at LSU, let him go.
All signs right now point to Notre Dame for Diggs's signature later today.
Regardless of eligibility, Williams could leave for the NFL after this year. If he had back to back 1,000+ yard seasons and improves his receiving this year, there won't be much he could do in 2022 to improve his stock more. He's already a hell of a blocker. It's wise for RBs to leave early before there's a lot of tread on their tires too so no one should begrudge him if he were to leave early. Notre Dame has to prepare for that possilbity.
Love Estime as a prospect, but adding another back is important. Even with him, there are only 4 RBs on the 2021 roster at the moment - depending on how Kendal Abdur Rahman is counted.
In the end, LSU made a big push for him so he isn't some throw-in recruit. Diggs is a legit prospect and a good addition to this class.
This was a very strange recruitment in that he signed his LOI, but then told the coaches he didn't mean it. That's usually not a good sign that a kid wants to come to ND.
Still seems like ND might have too many RBs (now 6 including KAR with none of out eligibility), but let Diggs come in and compete as he may force someone else to be the odd man out. I trust Lance Taylor's judgement that he's worthy of a scholarship.
First, ND is nowhere near being over the scholarship limit, at least for 2021. They're allowed 110 next year. After that, they have plenty of time to manage the roster. If you mean the 25 man limit for the 2020 class, they're nowhere near that either, due to so many early enrollees.
Second, where did you get that he signed in December? It was well publicized that he was waiting to sign in February. It's not like a silent commit. If he had signed a LOI, I think it would have been strange if it wasn't reported by ND.
I heard Eric Hansen state on his last podcast that the limit for next year will be 87 since Hinish and Doerer are the only 2 that would normally be out of eligibility that are coming back (ie, the only 2 that don't count against the 85 man limit). They could theoretically go higher if guys like Ian Book, Shawn Crawford, Daelin Hayes, Robert Hainsey, etc decided to come back, but since they are not, Hansen thinks the limit is 87. Basically the limit is 85 plus up to 25 guys where 2020 would have been their last year of eligibility. At least that's how Hansen explained it.
Rather than requiring teams to get back to a hard limit of 85 for 2022 and beyond, that formula could be used until all covid year players have used up their eligibility.
At the beginning of each season the roster would have to be: 85, plus any players who would normally be out of eligibility but are opting to take their extra year.
If that or a similar model is not used, few if any players, beyond the one's exercising the option for the 2021 season, would actually be able to use that supposed extra year. Schools would have to severely limit incoming classes in order to make room for players with extra eligibility. Or worse, even more kids would be unfairly asked to leave various programs so that those scholarship slots would be made available.
Although I don't think it's official yet.
its been on the premium boards, they may release him because of that new rule where everyone gets 1 free transfer so there’s no point trying to hold him
If that's true, then I stand corrected. I guess I can think of reasons for keeping it silent, but it would still be strange. Especially if it turns out to be he signed with ND, but didn't want it publicized because he wants to go to LSU. In that situation, he would either sign with LSU, or like it was first reported, he would wait to make a decision and then sign in February.
All this hoopla in order for the kid to tell us who he signed with in December.
there’s a free board out there notorious for having premium info all over the place most in code, rhymes with Jirsh jenvy

We have a stable of excellent running backs. How does he see the field for 2 years?
He could be a portal candidate in 2 years.
I wish him the best.
If he chooses us I hope he gets a fair shot.
That's definitely a distinct possibility, although not always a bad one - bring in good talent, if they can't crack the 2-deep then they transfer. It's not a bad place to be when when looking back 10 years ago. We would have been salivating at even being in Diggs top two, now it's "if he comes here, he may not crack the two deep" . My only caveat to that would be the RB injury potential, if you had a run of bad luck like 2015, it's nice to have RB depth as that and WR's seem to get bit by injuries more than other positions.
