Do you think this could be another reason for the O'Leary hire vs. bringing someone in from the outside?

and is quality. Not only that, there are question marks this year at that position and huge question marks the following year...this is an important position coach hire. So, if Kelly and Freeman were willing to pass up Cooks to go with the younger guy they both must be pretty high on him and I'm guessing his defensive mentality and perspective meshes very well with Freeman. This is a good thing.
Of the guys on the staff, I think O'Leary is the guy that Freeman and Mickens wanted.

Perhaps Cooks didn't want the job?
Perhaps you don't have a clue what went on in the decision process?
You know what's BS speculation? That he didn't want the job after learning about it during the interview. This is a position he previously had at the place he currently works. He knew exactly what the job entailed and interviewed for it. My speculation that O'Leary was chosen over him is way more logical than anything you've presented.
I'll accept your apology now.
Over the last week or so nearly every outlet that covers ND has publicly speculated that Cooks was a potential replacement. I doubt anyone would have said that if Cooks wasn't being considered. Listen to the most recent Irish Illustrated podcast if you need proof that I'm not making this up. I guess Bryan Driskell that covers ND full time for Sports Illustrated also has "no clue" when he speculates on Cooks as the DB coach? (See link)
If you want to troll me for no reason bring some info that I'm wrong next time instead of claiming I'm talking out of my ass when it's obvious that's what you are doing.

If you are going to make ignorant comments when you don't have a clue what happened, you are going to get trolled.
Cook being considered for the job and O'Leary getting it doesn't mean O'Leary was picked "over" Cooks.
Perhaps Cooks wasn't interested in the job after he was interviewed?
Personally, I can't count the literally countless number of times I have interviewed/been considered for a job/project, and I walked away because the various circumstances didn't fit what I wanted.
By the way, if you actually read the article you posted, nowhere in it does it say Cooks was interviewing or being considered for the job. it is essentially an advocacy piece for Cooks.
But the fact that it was an internal hire and not Cooks is a significant part of this story that hopefully will be explained. To think otherwise is means you weren't paying attention, which you obviously weren't.
You are right that I don't know every single detail of the hiring process (as if any poster on this message board ever does), but I have been following the story and Cooks was (by all accounts) the most likely internal hire, thus my post. You obviously weren't aware of that, thus your post.
Using the phrase "instead of" is based on your completely uninformed speculation. You have no idea why O'Leary is in the job and Cooks is not.
You have no information if others were considered. You don't know if it was a choice of either Cooks or O'Leary. You don't know if Cooks decided for any number of reasons that he didn't want the job. You also assume, based on stories like you cited that Cooks was the "most likely internal hire." Fact is those stories are idle media speculation based on the fact that Cooks is certainly a qualified experienced coach who is already on ND's staff as opposed to any specific knowledge of what the process and ultimate decision was.
Speculation is fun and fine but you display your agenda when you post things as you did in this case
By the way, I was aware that Cooks was on ND's staff and would be a logical possibility for a regular coaching position at ND. Heck he was mentioned as a possible DC. So again, your speculation displays more of your overt ignorance than anything else. You missed again!
That's rich.
My only agenda is hoping to get some info at some point on how this decision was made and why it wasn't Cooks despite the fact that pretty much every publication had dropped his name as potential replacement and none had ever mentioned O'Leary.
By the way, it was Pete Sampson that said Cooks was the most likely hire in the podcast I referenced. Would you tell him everything you just told me? Is he totally ignorant as to what is going on with the ND football program? You are the only one of us that is ignorant on this topic, and are being an asshole for no apparent reason.
I've also presented nothing as "fact" other than the actual fact that most outlets that cover ND had discussed Cooks as a potential replacement and why that topic is worthy of exploration.
Last thing: Irish Illustrated is reporting that Cooks was interviewed for the position.
