I'm not sure why but CBs and ND just haven't been a good mix for the better part of 25 to 30 years. We've had a guy here or there that had a good season or season and a half but the group as a whole has been a real weakness, and very few impactful pro careers have materialized from ND in this area.
It will be awesome to see that group catch up to the others.

For the most part, the “great coaches” actually just have great players. Show me a great coach, and I can almost always show you a great quarterback that is the real reason for success. Sure, coaching develops talent, but without the underlying talent to begin with there is a low ceiling that prevents winning championships. I will grant that there are rare exceptions to this rule - and usually even then it is an isolated year rather than long term success, but Kelly is not good enough to qualify as an exception.
This interview combined with the early results just so far indicate that this guy was an excellent, excellent hire.
