Link: Notre Dame Got the Quarterback They Wanted
Thus far the Tommy Rees offense has only had Ian Book as the QB. Ian is mobile, accurate and doesn't make mistakes, but (probably due to his height) didn't see the field well from the pocket and therefore missed a lot of guys, he also didn't have the biggest arm, which prevented a lot of downfield throws.
Coan is tall and accurate, but not a scrambler and doesn't have the biggest arm. But Coan sees the field well, so I expect a lot more mid-range completions over the middle.
Angeli seems like Coan as far as his skillset. Maybe not quite as tall, but with a slightly bigger arm. I think an offense tailored for Coan will also suit Angeli's skillset. We'll see this year if such an offense can be effective or not. I think that it is telling that the 2 QBs that have committed to ND since Rees took over as OC are Coan and Angeli.
with Coan. [sigh] If that's what Angeli brings ...
19. QB JACK COAN, WISCONSIN → NOTRE DAME
Coan missed the 2020 season due to injury, later deciding to transfer to Notre Dame after it was clear he wasn’t getting his job back from Graham Mertz, the No. 3-ranked pro-style quarterback in 2019.
Despite playing in a difficult-to-execute offense at Wisconsin in 2019, Coan played fairly well. He produced a 77.0 grade for the season, and the Badgers put together the third-most efficient passing attack in the Big Ten. Coan displayed great underneath accuracy, something head coach Paul Chryst needed in his offense (7.5 average depth of target was the lowest in the conference).
Coan's deep ball, however, was far too errant. There were several instances of him getting overconfident and forcing deep shots that weren’t there. Exactly 20% of his 20-plus yard throws were deemed turnover-worthy that year, the worst rate in the Power Five.
Downfield passing was a concern throughout Ian Book’s 2020 campaign, and the same is likely true with Coan leading the way. All indications point to him being about the same kind of passer as Book.

Pretty much my concern watching the small bit of highlights. Mobile QBs are required now. The idea of a pocket passer makes super nervous.

those rankings only mean so much. I tend to trust the offer list more than the ranking and his offer list and physical qualities check out.
Well star rankings are MAINLY a testament to where the player is as a HS Graduate, some progress or remain stagnant, while others make gradual improvements. Their is also those who are simply overlooked but you could also look at the stat rankings of the front 7 of Alabama, OSU, LSU and Clemson and see a clear separation. Getting a couple of 3 star jewels is one thing but banking on 5-6 to turn into 4 star quality is alot to ask and seems to be the constant problem in the Kelly era.

They can be when the prospect is purely a media hype train but statistics show stars certainly make a difference with the Top 4 teams in Football.
He is ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals, but he's not among the Top 250 players in the country on their rankings. He is ranked as their 13th best pro-style quarterback. Angeli is ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and he's the No. 375 player in the country and No. 16 pro-style quarterback on the 247Sports composite list
I think that’s wrong.
We usually get a 5'11" guy after a guy like Buchner. This guy's big, strong, athletic and he's just a kid. We'll see what he turns into.
