Link: Notre Dame Adds Central Michigan to 2023 Football Schedule
Ara , during his tenure, played 52 games against opponents that ended up with losing records in that particular year. He played against nine teams that ended up with only one win and one team that finished the season with zero wins. Our other beloved HC is Lou. He played in 45 games that the opponent ended up with a losing season. Three opponents that ended up with only one win and one opponent who didn't win a game at all. Central Michigan is not an outlier for our program. Though these teams I mentioned that ended up with losing records or only one win and even no wins may not be MAC proud, they still were awful, and awful for many years.

The "back in my day crowd" regarding schedules is annoying. Mostly the same crew that didn't want a stadium expansion, turf, or a jumbotron. Two playoff appearances later, life goes on.
Navy was awful back then and no different as a tune-up game now. The only difference was ND had history with Navy. You know who else sucked in the 80's? Rice. Played them. Guess who else was terrible? Purdue. Just because they are from a P5(ish) conference doesn't mean they weren't terrible and easy games back then. I'm in my early 40's. I saw it with my own eyes. They weren't stories. A team like CMU isn't great for your season tickets, I understand that. Want to know what else sucks? ND's out of conference home basketball schedule. NFL preseason games. A lot of the ACC teams that come into ND Stadium. Take the tune-up and the W and realize its just CFB in this era.

It doesn’t seem that we are scheduling like Alabama. And I think this is a good choice given the gauntlet that we will have to run.
Florida Auburn T A&M LSU Georgia
They usually win those too so they get the edge. IMHO.

I suppose that these teams annual top 5 recruiting classes, top notch facilities and coaching staffs, and consistent top level performances year in and out aren’t a good enough reason to say ND has a tough schedule then, huh?
Of course, even when backed into a ridiculous corner, you don’t apply the same “can’t predict the future” argument to the supposed cupcake team you complain about scheduling.
“Clemson, OSU, USC - no way to say whether they will even be any good in 2023”.
But
“CMU - definite cupcake in 2023”.
Your post is NDNation-worthy

You can do better than this, can't you?
sorry if I hurt some feelings.
THat schedule you point out is daunting , if you schedule a power 5 team every week, you wont have a chance at the playoffs Same reason, an NFL team , the great ones, lose 4-5 games every yr You knock heads every week with a good opponent, you will get beat even if your the better team ..... Saban schedules very meticuously, he knows what he's doing...
