If you did not Qualify where would you go? I would go to Clemson.
And I am talking about today, right now not 30 years ago or whenever it was when you graduated from HS.
GO Irish!
Didn’t Florida State have a Rhodes Scholar who could have turned pro and Alabama had a great FB player who became a doctor. It all depends on the student’s priorities. The thought that the top rated HS QB could not become a top NFL draft pick at ND is wrong, as is the thought that a top rated HS QB necessarily gives a damn about studying or getting a degree anywhere.

Especially if I wanted to take my talents to the NFL.
A player on my grandson's HS team is getting a lot of attention, including a look see from ND. The kid has listed Bama as his #1 school and he hasn't even talked to the Fighting Sabans. Never been on Saban's campus. Don't know if they have courses that would interest him. Don't know what other players are at his position. Don't know if Bama will ever come calling. But, Bama is his first choice. This is the mindset of many young athletes now.

you Kiel. I give you Wimbush. I give you Zaire. I give you Kizer. I give you Jurkovek.
We end up with Rees and Book, both of whom I respect and played every bit up to their abilities and were respected leaders. But that list I gave you were all top 250 and 4 star or higher and a lot were top 85 in the country. Al very solid 4 stars at least. All of them seemed to get completely screwed up in one way or the other. So, I'd want to see a top recruit actually turn out for ND.
Bigger question is whether Buchner turns out. For me, I hope so but I'll believe it when I see it. And if he doesn't turn out either, we'll achieve critical mass in the narrative that ND is the university highly rated QB recruits go to get ruined.
Kizer was just fine and had a brilliant Jr season....Kiel never saw the field due to personal issues and just face it that Wimbush and Zaire were not fits schematically for Kelly and not the most accurate QBs no matter where they played!

Crist was a Weis signee
Zaire, Kizer, and Jurkovec weren't top recruits, there's only about 2-4 top QB prospects a year, i think the last top QB prospect that visited was Eason like 6 years ago and
It seems like after all the effort with Kyle Allen, Kelly tired of recruiting top prospects and went with the mutual interest angle. Then the next year after the Blake Barnett mess just didn't care enough to recruit them from that point and just goes with good prospects that show up at ND camps instead of going after the top guys. So he's content with a Angeli, Buchner, and Pyne instead of top guys.
rated and talented than Rees and Book, though, by far. I concede the points you made and don't dispute them. It just seems like the more highly rated and gifted players we've been able to get don't turn out for us since Kelly took over. For all his failings, Weis actually did well with them...far better than Kelly has.
Hopefully we keep winning a lot and get some of the highest rated players to come to ND.

If I believed in my abilities, I’d trust that the NFL would value me regardless of where I played.

foot for Big Game to recruit you.

ire a super star OC/QB coach to get them to look at this point. The last shot he had at an elite kid was Jacob Eason because of a family tie, and Gunnar Kiel in a down QB year because of a family tie.
BK alienates QB's choosing the least capable on the roster to be his starter - I'd have to choose to go to someplace like Clemson
because at Clemson, if you have the talent the Coach makes sure you're going to get a shot even if it's garbage time
you'll be out there on the field working to get experience. Not so at ND under Kelly.
Also there's the issue at ND - some lousy plays and play calling happens in each game a total headscratcher.
, a small guy with a big accurate arm and mobile enough to extend plays and make big plays.
The guy wasn't highly rated coming out of HS, but he was so spectacular at times making play after play. Golson and Kelly both fucked up the situation, Golson getting himself kicked out of school for a year and Kelly fucked it up by throwing him aside for Zaire instead of coaching him up.
It seems like Kelly then thought the key was to just get at least a semi mobile QB that could extend plays, he would have a success.
That seems to be the pattern for the most part, he seems to love QBs that aren't highly rated but mobile, he just can't find them with a Golson arm.
I like USCs model better, get a tall guy that can make all the throws.
and was about as accurate little league bowling.
"Get a tall guy who can make all the throws" - I love it.

Hadn’t heard that, and frankly doubt it, but really is beside the point. Holybull held out USC’s approach to recruiting QBs as being superior. Their current QB was pretty close to Book in terms of recruit profile. That was my point. 6’2 185 (Slovis) v 6’1 200 (Book) per 247. Both 3*. Basically identically rated: .8681 v .8683.
function. He said he was definitely taller than Book and my pal is barely 6'.
Book may be 6'1", but I doubt it.
I don't dislike Book and think he did a pretty good job of it. My dislike is with BK and his
handling of QB's at ND. I think he's a bit of a fraud when it comes to QB's.
I think that is fairly dependable. It is one inch shorter than his recruit profile. That kind of fudging is probably normal for HS profiles. Slovis was listed at 6’2 as a recruit— probably meaning he’s slightly shorter. Point stands. USC’s current QB doesn’t make much of a case for USC prioritizing “tall QBs.” And, again, Slovis and Book were identically rated. Holybull’s USC comp seems misplaced to me. Beyond that, not sure what is at issue.
ours probably average out to 6 foot, mobile, iffy arm, The SC guys are probably 6'2-6'3" most are statues and can throw the ball.

Clark is listed at 6’2. Angeli is listed at 6’3. Buchner 6’2. At USC, Sears and Fink and Daniels were all listed at 6’2 or 6’3 respectively. Hardly giants. Average QB height at USC now is 6’1. Behind Slovis right now: Aoki is listed at 5’9 and Ward is listed at 6’0. Hasan is listed at 6’3. Incoming freshman Miller Moss is listed at 6’2.
as well as listing the tallest QBs that ND has had and not listing any of their short ones, while going with just the current USC roster.
I didn’t look for walk on designation v non-walk on designation. The information I provided was accurate. Further, I didn’t set out to make an exhaustive list of ND or USC QBs in recent seasons. I noted as examples that, contrary to the theory, ND has recruited some tall QBs since Golson (where the “mental illness” allegedly started), Kizer and Jurkovec being notable. Yes, ND has also recruited shorter QBs too. My original statement stands: USC’s current QB profiles similar to Book on size and recruiting rating. That seems to make USC an odd comp for your claims. Sorry.

Using 247 numbers and only counting QBs recruited (no walk-ons or transfer ins or HS QBs recruited to play other positions in college) who signed LOIs, since 2011 (when the "mental illness" began), the average height of scholarship recruited QB at ND is 6-2.5. At USC it is 6-2.7. Essentially the same. Not sure why this turned into a big deal. I just pointed out here that USC current QB situation kind of blows up your comp, which it does. Now recent history does too. Is this done?

Wasn't a big deal.
