I'm a bit surprised, since he seemed like he had a real chance at nailing down one of the starting linemen spots.

Lot's of handwringing about Ron Powlus III's scholarship for nothing.
Also room for a grad transfer if there's a good one out there.

While ND will have the occasional underclassman transfer like Phil Jurkovec, Jordan Johnson and Abdur - Rahman, I think most transfers will be the grad-transfers. The vast majority of ND football players chose ND in large part because of the value of the ND degree, and most will stay to get that degree. Once they get that degree, I can see them transfer for playing time.
The shifting involved with getting them onto the field would have repercussions to PT one would think.
I know it's early but he's got AA potential
But going into the Fall, Gibbons is the 5th best OL at best behind Patterson, Lugg, Correll, and Fisher. Best of luck to the kid. ND's OL rotation is a tough one to crack.
Spindler's looking like he could start from day one, and Fisher's not far behind, along with Baker.
Correll has the center spot locked down, and of course, Patterson and Lugg have the other two spots cemented.
While the 2021 OL looks to be more inconsistent than last year's, I'm pretty optimistic about 2022's lineup.
Very classy exit statement.
