most part with our younger guys from Kelly. It's always he's still young, he's still learning the playbook, or he's still developing. However, when I look around other big programs, there are true freshman contributing and making an impact. This year's offense in general has been mind boggling to me. Some people blame it on the offensive line and the new people. However, two guys are returning starters and a third is a transfer/pre season AA from Marshall yet we have trouble running the ball, protecting the QB, just doing basic things. I still think it's a combination of scheme/coaching and ND really hasn't had a true stud college QB in years. If you think about it under Kelly, we have all debated for years about his offense or lack there of at times. We have recruited very well in recent years and offensive line recruiting has been excellent. You would think by now the program would be at a point where we just reload. There is no excuse (QB included) as to the ND offense being so putrid this year. We struggle to score 20 points even against mediocre teams. To me the biggest proof with this offense being questionable under Kelly is looking at the National Championship game and the two playoff losses when the stakes were raised. We can't score yet we've sent a lot of guys to the NFL that are very good starters. Maybe landing a stud college QB would negate some of the bad offensive showings but until they prove me wrong, I don't have the faith in Kelly/Rees. One thing to think about, Bama lost their starting WR's, QB, RB, and at least two offensive line starters to the NFL yet they are scoring north of 40 points on average this year. To change things around, Kelly and Rees need to land one of the top QB's. What Williams is doing at Oklahoma has been amazing. He came in last week around 2nd Qtr when they were way down to lead a comeback. This week, he looked like a Heisman Trophy winner. I can't imagine he's had the number of starting reps that Rattler has had but it doesn't seem like his coaches have spoon fed him either. Hopefully, ND gets what it needs at the QB position because it truly is the one thing that is holding ND back some from a title. I thought Book was a very good college QB but his happy feet and lack of accurate down the field throwing hurt us against some of the better teams, so he still wasn't the complete package. This Williams is throwing bombs right on the money. Think about college QB's that have single handily carried their team to NC's with unbelievable performances......Vince Young, Cam Newton, Tua, Deshawn Watson.....to name a few. We haven't had anyone close to those guys. Hopefully one day we will.

Considered a “can’t miss prospect” by many. Buchner was well regarded, but not at that level. Buchner also played at a relatively low level of competition in HS. Buchner transferred to a higher level, but lost the chance to play at that level due to COVID. Buchner also lost his sophomore season due to injury. So he really only had one season as a HS QB (and again, not at a high level). I think that sums it up. I think Buchner has a ton of talent, but didn’t expect him to do much as a freshman. He’s actually already exceeded my expectations. I’ll be shocked if he isn’t the guy next season and beyond. If he stays healthy, I think he has a chance to be great.

Talent around each specifically OL. Buchner has only played one year as a QB due to injury and covid. Height, weight, friends, family, etc I’m guessing are all different as well.
