Sounds crazy doesn't it. He's never won a National Championship and got smoked against Baylor last year. He is regarded as one of the best coaches in the country and rightly so. Sounds like a football coach we all know doesn't it.

Alabama and we gave them their closest game. Another factor no one has mentioned was that Tremble was going to be featured in the passing game against Alabama because Alabama was expected to take Mayer out of the game. Our first drive we moved down the field but Tremble got hurt when we were on about the 9 yard line. Plus Alabama was perhaps one of the best college football teams in history last year. I really think they could have beaten the Giants and Jets last year. Najee(sp) is doing great in the NFL and he was considered a very good but not great prospect, as far as his draft order was considered, though I thought he was a great prospect. Guess I was right on that one too.
WTF are you talking about?
Alabama. I know how high he was rated in high school. Based on the NFL draft was what I meant. Did Alabama have linemen or linebackers picked earlier than him too? I just am asking, not sure. But he certainly is a great player.

The next time Kelly actually outcoaches a coach at a equal or superior program, it would be the 2nd time in 11 years. And that is only counting beating Oklahoma.
And no beating half empty Clemson last year doesn't count.
If Kelly had stayed at Cincy and gotten the Bearcats to a NC game + 2 playoff appearances . . . yes, compare him to Gonzaga's b-ball coach. But comparing what Few did at Gonzaga with ND's football coach . . . no dice. Not an apt comparison.

place. Yes, that counts too.

OK in 2012 and Clemson in 2020 without Lawrence. That’s it.
He’s lost every good bowl and playoff game he’s been in.

discussions between the two schools fans...very little else. LSU fans were not pleased at the time. Their NC wiped that all away.
What was "on the line" at that time?
They wanted to win but they knew their team was meh like ours those two years.
They were also pretty cool when Miles blew out Fat Chuckles in 2007.
They know what both good and mediocre teams look like there.

They can be positive. They can be stepping stones.
They are minor bowls for a reason.

Right? By your reasoning, only one game at year’s end ‘matters’. I and a lot of fans with memories disagree with you.
records and many other factors. As of now you only have 2 that directly effect it. (Kelly is 0-3 in those games.).
The "major" bowls, however, have more of an impact on the perception of your program and can carry over in elevating your ranking the following year.
I think there is more "on the line" but do concede that is a subjective assessment.
(Way of the topic now. The original post implying Kelly is just like Few is simply off base...)
Mark D'Antoni isn't on anyone's list of top coaches

Kelly has done none of that. He has lost EVERY big postseason bowl and playoff game he’s been in.
Do better on the analogy.
ND hasn't been close to the favorite against Clemson & Alabama. Clemson came in banged up AT Notre Dame but it was a BIG GAME. The 2012 game was a BIG GAME against USC. Many Notre Dame teams have had the Trojans beat them and ruin their undefeated seasons. Ara said it best. "It's only a big game when you lose".
as good as USC in others years and Ara seldom beat them. 66' and 73' Ara beat them and Devine only beat them in 77' and blew it in 80'.

...getting a DiWI then.
Few has been there for EVERY major success that Gonzaga basketball has attained as either an assistant or head coach...and has Gonzaga ranked pre-season #1.
Kelly, after 12 years, has failed to win a major bowl game. Something that Notre Dame used to do with regularity prior to the Moe, Larry and Curly clown show. They are not the standard.
Rate Few's successes vs. Gonzaga basketball history. He's involved in all of them.
Rate Kelly's vs. ND Football history... Most wins?
