1. As soon as his name hit the transfer portal, ND was his first call.
2. He wants to go somewhere that has a successful program, where the culture is right, and where he can " get on the field."
3. He is going to make a quick decision.
4. His NFL evaluation was to go back to school.
5. He said that there was a lot of negativity at USC and that he was looking for a fresh start in a more positive atmosphere.
Thoughts:
His stock has gone down in the last two seasons, but in his true freshman year, he killed it: 72% completion pct.; 30 TDs/9 INT; 3,502 total yards; and 4-400+ yd. games.
He has 2 years left, but if he returns to his freshman form, he'll go to the NFL after one year, no matter where he winds up.
Would Buchner be willing to wait one more year?
Would there be a domino transfer effect in the ND QB room?
Would Slovis give Rees a guy who could open up his full playbook?
Anyway, we won't have to wait long for the decision of Slovis.
P.S. Missouri might be a sleeper.
Which is exactly what I’d imagine Slovis wants. If we’re not set on Buchner as a long-term solution, then Slovis could be a stop gap. But he’d probably buy us a year then we’d need a new QB.

If I were Buchner I’d at least look at the portal for developmental reasons. ND has just not done a great job developing QBs and he’s a guy who needs it. We need an athlete who can sling the ball and has good judgment.

Buchner has a much higher upside. Pyne is a good backup and Angeli is rated much higher coming out of HS. It’s a good thing we’re passing in Slovis. Don’t need him. WR is another story
Slovis is just another guy. He probably isn't as good as Coan.

Pitt I think anyway.

answer but Buchner is unproven and has not shown much in his ability to throw. Guess we will find out soon enough.
Buchner was a 4 Star QB rated .968 and ranked #71 nationaly... they aren't in the same ballpark talent wise.
Slovis had a big Freshman season and has regressed ever since in about every area, except for rushing...he was -57 rushing yards each of his first two seasons and only -36 rushing yards this season.
The last two years he has played just like he was rated, 3 Star and with those kind of rushing yards makes me think he's probably another sack monster.
Not interested in pushing a possible great out the door who has three more years of eligibility, to bring in an average guy for maybe one year, because he had a big Freshman season 3 years ago.
So no thanks, Hard Pass!
We know far more about what Slovis can do that we do Buchner. Kind of like our new coach.

into the Coliseum next November and pissed all over those pukes.
We're in good shape at the QB position. Besides, I don't want any USC stink to infiltrate our QB room.
his style of play.

He responded: "We feel really good about the quarterbacks that are on our roster."
For whatever that is worth.
and the way Buchner plays, even if he pans out great, there is a huge injury risk.

the next level. Whether Buchner is remains to be seen but the QB depth chart was correct this year.

IDK why Slovis would want to risk that. But if he's cool with competing, come on down.
I granted a one time exception last yr,, (LOL, Not that it was required)..as three time starter Ian Book was gone, and the heir apparent, Brendan Clark was injured, then transferred..THat one yr is over, Its Tyler Buchner time, with Drew Pyne as the back up...I dont want Buchner, nor any other QB recruit looking over their shoulder..Transfers generally are disgruntled elsewhere, and looking to start..
Keep dipping into the portal for QBS...Youre going to have a very disgruntled QB room, and its going to be used against you in recruiting..TRy recruiting an elite QB, if you become known for getting QBs from the portal..
AND, i think Buchner brings much more to the table than Slovis..
If ND took Slovis (and that's a big if IMO), maybe they are just accepting QB transfers as the new normal. That might be the right call too.
And I'd absolutely look to the portal for a QB who is capable of being a depth piece -- legit could play, but who wouldn't come in with the expectation of being the starter. Unless an real superstar wanted in. Slovis isn't a superstar to me. If Slovis is okay with coming in to be an experienced backup, .. cool. I doubt that is what he's looking for.
Im going to recruit my QB room; ...to do otherwise, IM afraid will negatively affect the whole team, not just the QB room..
