Freeman and Rees are in Texas today to visit him. Sturdy RB (5-11 220) who had a big '21 season. "Late riser" type of player.

Is someone leaving? It seems we'll have 4 quality RBs on the team next year, and we have Irvin coming in the following year.
Marcus, we need WRs (Salerno doesn't check that box) and a big ugly on the DL.
deadly and I'd want a lot of high quality backs in the stable with that kind of offense.
With a pass-heavy offense, maybe we have enough. But with a very thin WR room, tons of talent and maybe the best OL coach in the country and an elite running QB I think we may be very run-heavy with a good deal of RPO's and it's nice to have more backs for a run-heavy offense like that.
Paul is a fast-rising prospect whose recruitment BLEW up in the last month. He's the kind of back that you take if you can get him.
Another reason is if you have another RB on the roster in 2022, it gives you a ton of versatility with Tyree.
Even if Tyree doesn't see time working out of the slot, I am of the opinion that four RBs is too few given the nature of the position. One injury and boom you're dangerously thin at the position.
Lot of reasons to try and add a back like Paul.

the scholarship some other way?
Typically there are a few post-spring transfers and ND is banking on that.
The only year they were over going in was 2020 (due to covid kids stayed put more than normal) and that year they put 3 guys on medical scholarships to get to 85, meaning they honored the scholarship, but the kids couldn't play. This might have been legit medical stuff or it might have been creative roster management by ND...one of the guys put on medical was Isaiah Robertson, who tried to grad transfer and keep playing (indicating that he didn't think he had a career-ending injury), but I don't think any other schools took him..
Freeman and Jack need to get these hires done and official quickly if they want to land Paul or Lowe.
Then before the weekend passed, Taylor was Louisville's OC.
