Many thought we'd have to have another '16 to lose that shackle...this season was a very fun alternative.

which hasn't always been the case.
pumped now, though realize week 1 may be a loss. Either way it's good to have fresh leadership and I'm hopeful that it will be the missing piece.
And that isn't all going to be fixed by recruiting alone...you can collect the finest most advanced tools in the world, but if the mechanic doesn't know how to use them, it's all for nothing.
to stay a year or two more?
we didn’t do that, we held on to him and he eventually started piling up 10+ seasons, so I wasn't in "fire him" mode as long as the 10+ regular seasons were occurring because I was banking on the talent influx that always happens when ND Wins!
Having said that, I'm happy he's gone, but wasn't happy with the timing or him being afforded the opportunity to pull the plug.
But what I'm least happy about (and this isn't a knock on Freeman specifically, I do "like" him) is that we rode out the storm and suffered with that other guy for 12 years and it finally starts to pay off, the program is on an upward trajectory and he bolts (yeah that socks, but what do we do?) ..hire a HC with zero experience to replace him. smh.
When conversations used to be had about replacing him, I always said that if we just hired a quality experienced guy we would likely be OK, but if you told me in advance we were going to hire another guy with zero experience then I'd rather just keep the old guy because hiring no experience is almost every time, a total disaster.
I really, really hope Freeman is the exception, otherwise the past 12 years will end up being for nothing and we'll be right back in the Davie ty Weis loop.

especially after the events of 1/1/22....No sugarcoating that one.
2016 was just six years ago. There were games that weren't a lot of fun, but I think people forget how bad it was before this run of 10+ win seasons.
2017 had the embarrassing loss to Miami and then the collapse against Stanford.
2019 had the blowout to a bad Michigan team.
I'd rank 2018 and 2020 over this year, but that's about it in terms of recent seasons.

Attending the home games are a total blast. Been going since the very late 1950s and gameday is as much fun now as back then attending with my brothers and Pop. Inside the stadium, the Jumbo and students make the game a real experience. The first time you go. Every time. Even with the outcome of the Cincy game or going back to 4th and nine .The students are the heart and soul of the game experience. The game itself is fan stressful many times, much of it brought on by the ragin cajun himself. The Fiesta is just an example of how frustrating it is to be a fan of this football program. Win or lose, life goes on. Mortgage payments still need to be made. Food still has to be put on the table for the family. Keeping everyone healthy is still a go.
