I remember some time in the past, that he actually offered his services to NBC for the ND home games, but they turned him down.
Ah, found it.

I know his son, Austin, went to ND, but I'm pretty sure he (Cris) spent all of his time as a player at Florida, and went to law school elsewhere.

Still, he's been with NBC for almost three decades now, and much of that preceded Sam Flood having taken over things at NBC.
It's easier to deny someone the job in the first place, than to remove someone who has been established there for a lengthy time.

Why is that NBC contract up?

Bring Ron Franklin out of retirement. BQ seems to have a sweet gig now so I don't know if NBC could sway him to do ND games. The guy who just called the Kentucky Derby would be interesting. How about the Fox NASCAR crew? Jason Benetti, who works the TV booth for the White Sox and ESPN college football and basketball games would be pretty good IMHO. How about no announcers at all, just game action and crowd noise with the stadium PA guy. Finally, simulcast the ND radio booth with TV. I will take 20% commission from NBC on any of these ideas.
