to go if he signed off on this. Enough already. Not the worst thing he’s done, but…well…Never mind, let me just focus on this one.
Why would you want to tinker with the greatest fight song ever written? There are just some folks who are so haughty that they just can’t resist tearing everything down. You need to get someone else in the room when the perfume becomes too sweet. Someone from outside your circle may pick up a different aroma.
Can you imagine recruits or opponents getting a whiff of this scent? Hmm, do I want to be associated with someone who can’t figure out if they are sons or daughters? Or, I wonder which ones we are going to play today?
We have a young coach now who is working his tail off, and we need no distractions. Why does hubris know no bounds? Why do you continue to throw stones at something you supposedly love? Why does our leadership wait until now to sabotage our coach?
In case you are wondering. Of course, I have no problem with the modification if the song is being used at venues where women’s sports are being played, and in fairness, it is the slow season for college football news, and I have not seen an official statement on this.
Everyone knows The Notre Dame Fight Song has a connection with the football team that is special, and I hate to break the news to everyone, but football is played by Her Loyal Sons—Period.
so let's move on to a different football topic.
I probably would have let it go were it posted on the Open (hint).
-I honestly believe the context was to make the “new” segment of the population feel fully part of the community.
It was a theme of the week, and it did not have any other “woke” component - believe me, I wouldnt like that.
Mary is still referred to as mother with sons and daughter (nuclear family model) still specifically referenced snd honored. Thus, it is still quite the opposite message of the WOKE agenda.
I think that its just a completion of the move 50 yrs ago which was a good one.
(no message)
There is nothing center or even close to center about you. That’s what makes you so adorable.
…with the attack. And we actually pretty much agree on the issue.
I think you stepped way beyond your province there.
This much is true - he brought up his political stance on a football related post i can certainly disagree or agree with his political stance in a ND football related post.
It so happens I supported and emphasized the point his post is making. He has no issues with the Irish Fight Song change even with his extreme right political view
Maybe you should read before you knee jerk another post.
That’s what we can agree on
are guys.
Funny how on one hand you say you don’t object to the change then immediately object to the lyrics change.
Crazy world we live in, eh?
If this is all we as ND alum and fans have to worry about or consider as something going wrong at ND then ND is doing a fine job with their uni and your appeal for Fr. Jenkins to step down is misguided.
Go Irish!
Haughtiness and hubris know no bounds. You may need to venture outside of your narrow room on occasions and get a since of how others perceive the aroma. Believe me, there are many women who object to this so-called change to promote inclusiveness, and you don’t have to search long to find them. Some feel it is a slight to the men on campus by implying that only now women are respected after this change. Some feel it insults parents who feel they have done something wrong if they raised daughters with such fragility. And yes, others feel that it insults the women themselves who had no problem with the lyrics and did not feel their fellow classmates were being disrespectful with the tradition, and they were grounded enough to be the strong women that we admire with their own since of collegiate rebelliousness which prompted them to change the lyrics on their own without anyone’s permission.
Father Jenkins is priest, a Catholic priest, for goodness sakes. Does he not understand that some folks will never be happy until all gender roles are erased? Do you think there are some folks who would be more than happy to break down the barriers of exclusivity within his own ranks?
We are Christians, and Jesus is at the center of our worship, but you will never see the men of Notre Dame pushing for inclusive representation on top of the Dome. Notre Dame is Our Mother, and our love for her is immeasurable. Of all the women who ever were or will be she reigns with unmatched and unassailable splendor. Jesus chose her, A WOMAN, as the vessel to bring true love into the word. Nothing will ever diminish my love for Our Lady. Yes, we often fall short, and my own imperfection is immeasurable within the cast of her shadow, but I am and always strive to be Her Loyal Son. It truly saddens me that Our Lady’s University has allowed itself to now mark an occasion, more than 100 years after Sorin’s arrival, to now suggest that women are finally loved, honored and respected.
We are a Catholic University, and today is the day of Pentecost. We have been commissioned to go forth, not inward. I know that I am older now, and I just don’t get it, and that what I am trying to say for some is difficult to understand, but I wish there was a way for me to place all of the women of Notre Dame within a tight circle so that we all may embrace them and in so doing to ask them—and to also ask ourselves—to go forth, not inward. This is one thing Our Lady’s University should be able to teach. As you walk in her shadow, if you have any doubt that you are known, loved, honored, and respected do not turn inward, please, just look up.
women posting on this board, of course he is a known liar, so take it for what its worth.
Changing of 100 year old lyrics. Ladies basketball is as much on social issues as winning conference games. See a pattern here? How many times is the word "her" mentioned in the original lyrics to the fight song? Careful now, "Notre Dame, Our Mother" might soon be under attack by the left for some verb or vowel they don't like. In the end, how many players and students actually know all the words to the Victory March anyway?
