Assuming the ACC melts (Clemson, Miami, FSU to SEC) and the PAC-12 melts (CO and UT to the Big 12), wouldn't it be great if we go back to the past with a lot more independents in football and have a national league in the other sports.
So we'd keep Stanford, BC, Navy from the current mix, we'd alternate WA/OR, alternate UVA/PITT, alternate UNC/Duke, alternate Ga Tech/Wake Forest and alternate Syracuse/NC St/VaTech/Arizona/ASU. That's 8 quality games.
And is other sports, you have 4 divisions:
West:
Stanford
Oregon
Wash
Wazzu
Or. State
Arizona
ASU
Northeast:
ND
Pitt
BC
Syracuse
Louisville
UVA
VaTech
Southeast:
UNC
Duke
NC State
Wake
Ga Tech
It doesn't work perfectly, but it's workable. Then in all non-football sports, you have the top 4 teams (top in each division + 1 at large) play for the championships. Easy. We are done.
But guessing had ND known the dominos would have fallen like this, they would have got with Texas a couple years ago and made their own conference.
ND, Texas. OU, USC, and UCLA would have been a nice start.
