How about an All-Academic Conference:
Take the best academic schools from across the country and build a legit conference:
BC
UVA
Duke
Wake Forest
UNC
Vandy
Georgia Tech
ND
Northwestern
Stanford
Cal
I'm sure I'm missing 2-3 more, but this is a conference that could return the 'college' to college football.

Was it Swarbrick or Fr. Jenkins who alluded to this kind of future for college football recently?
Some programs remain part of their universities, others just use the university as a brand while functioning as independent businesses. Which is pretty close to today's reality anyway....
It's a stupid model...but continues to progress that way. The NFL should've ponied up for a minor
...league and colleges should have rules that limit the play to actual student-athletes. But that's long gone.
I think they will ultimately finally put the last nail in what made them exciting and special.
Wish it could happen. Let the semi-pro leagues go their own way. But it won't happen.

Not new, but definitely worth a serious look...following the herd will put a serious strain
on the very foundation of what 'Notre Dame" means to most of its alums and fan base...and for sure the CSCs.
Have to believe that many if not all of the schools you list (plus Rice) aren't at all happy with what's going on...here's hoping they form a group chat...

I like it, but advertisers wouldn't....
It's all about eyeballs on screens, and while CFB has degenerated into it's current morass, advertisers that pay the broadcast rights don't care. They want to sell shit, and getting people to watch games is al that matters. Hardly anyone will pay anything to watch ND-Vandy on a consistent basis...
That egg-head conference would have to pay networks to air their games.
