but Kelly being the control freak that he is passed on him for Rees. Kelly knew he couldn't control a guy like Moorhead. Watched Moorhead at Ped State make Trace McSorley out to be more than that kid ever dreamed of......Penn State offenses under Moorhead averaged 335.3 yards per game in 2014 and 348.4 yards per game in 2015. In 2016 season, offensive output at Penn State improved to 432.6 yards per game.
Would have been better for Rees also to learn from Morehead than for him to work under Kelly.
then we might have something to worry about.
We have not had a great passing QB in the Reese era. Hoping Buchner can turn into that during his time at ND but he is not there yet. Offensive Coordinators look like geniuses when they have the elite QB and look "conservative" when they don't.

himself and that is what happened. Rees got the most out of Book. He can do that with Buchner, too - but not playing football for 2 years before he got to ND did not help his development. Rate Rees at the end of Buchner's career, not at the beginning. The issue is we need an elite QB talent! We will have to wait until Carr gets here, it appears.

One game doesn't make or break a career, especially since we faced a top notch opponent with an excellent defense in the way of tOSU. They have NFL draftees at every defensive position, and several of those guys are going to be starters on Sundays.
If the offense puts forth another poor performance against Marshall, though, then I would be much more in agreement that Rees must go.
to them and the university has banked some loyalty capital in my book. I will give him every benefit of the doubt because of the character he showed on that day. He was loyal to us.... I owe that same loyalty to him. I think you can explain much of the offensive woes because of
A) hostile environment and big game pressure
B) a talented and tough OSU Def
C) poor field position over and over again
D) Buchner's first start and his need to get better in the passing game
E) Patterson not being at Guard - the OSU def continually exploited that position with pressure blowing up plays all day
F) lack of playmakers at WR
G) then maybe you can talk about the offensive game plan but again, you had all of the previous issues to contend with that dictated the game plan.
But it is funny that the announcers were talking about the "great game plan" when Buchner was 7-7 passing to start the game. Even though he was missing receivers and they had to make great catches often. OSU eventually figured out that sending a LB through Patterson's vacant Guard position would destroy any play we called. What do you call when the guard double team blocks and never gets off the block to get the stunt or LB blitz running through your gap? It killed us all day.
10 against Clemson, 14 against Bama, 13 at home against non Power 5 Cincy. The second half of the Fiesta wasn't a five star moment either. Outcoached big time. The Ohio State offensive production. Both Fiesta and Ohio State were winnable games. What are fans to think. Non of us are insiders. Non of us know what is going on on the practice field or behind closed doors. We only have big game results to judge this on. One thing is 100% for sure. It hasn't been one game. BK and Marcus are the HCs. Tommy is the OC and the OL falls under his responsibility as the OC. The WRs are under his jurisdiction as the OC. Play calling is his scene. So is game planning and in- game and halftime adjustments. All this is under Tommy's job description.
Michigan - 14 points. Clemson - 3 points. Miami - 8 points. Two Georgia games - 17 and 19. And probably a couple of others.
There is a deep history here of no real scoring against elite teams. But to further defend Rees, a uhnd story said it best - against Ohio State, Rees ran the offense he thought he SHOULD run vs. the offense he WANTED to run. If that's true, lesson learned big time. Finally, UGA only scored 10 in its season opener last year, and we all saw how that turned out.

I don't get how people still cant grasp what the game plan was last Saturday. It was very obvious they were trying to shorten the game like Navy does to us and it almost worked. I don't think anyone can have an honest opinion of where the offense is until these next few games are over. If we score 10 against Marshall than I will agree Rees sucks.
If we are ranked in the Top 10 isn’t playing good teams a more accurate depiction?
Or simply the fact if we play down to the level of our competition then nothing much has changed?
We have no idea what has changed or hasn’t changed at this point. My point is they won’t be playing keep away from Marshall.
game. Running into a loaded box almost guarantees a 3 and out. I think ND had close to an all-time low in number of total plays, and Ohio State had the advantage in time of possession. That doesn't sound like a Navy like game to me. The result, offensively, was just awful, which was a shame because the defense gave us a chance to win the game.
Whatever Rees does is on Rees alone. I don't think his offense is "Kelly-esque" though.
You do know Rees has almost no experience outside of the Kelly offense?
You don't recall even when Rees was a player he would just walk away and ignore Kelly when he was yelling at Tommy? He's never been afraid of Kelly or gave a shit what he thought.
Rees threw the ball all over the yard against Okie State and it was because "He runs the Kelly offense". Now he doesn't throw enough and it's the same criticism. I remember everyone loving Rees's game plan against LSU in a bowl game and thar sure as shit didn't look like a Kelly game plan.
Rees can fail all on his own without the help of Kelly. Or succeed for that matter.

Agree completely! I think what the offense shows the next few games will tell me how close or far Coach Freeman is from being a premier head coach. I am rooting for him because I am very impressed with the way he has handled many other head coaching responsibilities so far......
