What an embarrassment. Someone should be shot.
We don't know what was called. Everyone is saying Cam fucked up. If the play call had his responsibility as flat first, then he would have been right to let the receiver go since a back was coming out into the flat, and that would put the responsibility on the deep coverage to have gotten over sooner.
Still terrible that it happened, I'm not happy about it either, but we don't know for sure who fucked up their responsibility.

My point still stands as he doesn't know the call either.
Was a freshmen led offense. Let that sink in. We made May look like a Heisman candidate. But apparently that’s ok…nothing to worry about…after all we won!
I'm just saying that all of us armchair QBs have no idea what was actually called or who had what responsibility.
Blaming Cam is easy because he ran right by him. But we don't know the call, or what his responsibility was on the play, so to say 100% it was on him is impossible.
I'm not arguing that we didn't have coverage breakdowns, just that we don't know for sure who it was on.
There are certainly things that need to get better.
We gave up five passing touchdowns to a 18 yr old freshman surrounded by other freshmen. I wasn’t calling out Hart; our defense needs a lot of work. Linebackers and secondary are a C- at best
I agreed but I made the note that we weren't sure who was responsible. Cam has been getting trashed pretty hard for that play.
Your second post then went beyond that play Bestival acting like I was saying everything is fine, which I was not.
Now you're saying you weren't calling out a specific player, which you didn't, I was just trying myself to get folks to realize we don't know everything and to also not call out specific players for it.
I think overall we agree. The defense still has work to do. But let's also recognize that they did pretty well against an offense that was getting back two of its main weapons and had been considered pretty damn good going into the game. They did this after losing Ramon Henderson before the game and DJ Brown in the first half. The kid went 17/32 for 301. Yes he had 5 TDs, but those aren't Heisman numbers. Just about half his yards came on the two broken coverages, and Bracy was playing safety on the 4th and 21.
Overall the defense caused their offense problems most of the day. There are still certainly teachable moments to be had from this performance though.
BYU will be a better barometer. If we continue to give up long blown coverage passing plays it will be difficult to beat most of the teams left on the schedule. That’s the point I am trying to make. NC had a horrendous defense and we put up 45 points. We won’t be scoring 45 pts against some of these remaining teams. Hence the comment.
I do think that those plays will be gone over by the coaching staff with the team to try to improve.
Like I said before, I think we are mostly on the same page, I just really want to avoid player bashing, I'm not a fan of it. I'll coach bash all day long though, when I feel it is appropriate. I don't think it was your intention to player bash, my post about it was just to try to help avoid it if at all possible.
