By modern standards, the game was boring. Running plays seemed to be nothing but wildcat runs and counter handoffs and were the vast majority of plays called. Pass routes were very primitive, and throwing that large football must have been difficult. First downs were hard to come by, and there were numerous punts.
Northwestern won the game 14-7 to hand Notre Dame its only loss that year.
College football was still evolving.
