He doesn't look involved in the game at all.
This is all coaching or rather the lack of coaching.
One can go on and on to demonstrate this:
1. No QB transfer during the offseason. Even Kelly would have gotten one;
2. Losing the bowl game (letting Lewis get stuck on an island, no Buchner for a change of pace, no adjustments);
3. Most of the players have regressed since last year;
4. Doesn't understand that the problem is not just execution;
5. Let the total fuck up of the 2023 QB recruitment happen;
6. Appears to be a bystander on the sidelines with little to no input;
7. Can't get the team to play fundamentally sound;
8. Has not shown he can motivate his team;
9. Looks lost and nervous on the sideline;
10. Has no control or command of his staff.
11. He said Rees is doing an excellent job...geez.
Feel free to add more. He is a great person and a Notre Dame man but he is far from being the coach we all thought he might be.

than one recruiting class.
I called it way before then...the first time I heard his name mentioned as a potential replacement for Kelly, before Kelly had even left. I said it was ridiculous to consider him then, forget the eventual hire, even considering him was beyond comprehension. Then when Kelly bolted and numerous people here said it has to be Freeman there is 'no other choice', I screamed from the roof tops that they were wrong. When he was actually hired, because we didn't have time to wait on another candidate, likely Fickle...I was in utter disbelief. We did it again, how could we be this oblivious.
Of all the times we've hired a guy WITHOUT college HC experience, Knute Rockne has been the lone success, with all the rest being dumpster fire disasters.
Conversely, of all the times we've hired guys WITH prior college HC experience, the two "lowest" win % from that group were Brian Kelly and Tyrone Willingham.
In summary, hiring with prior experience has produced only one true disaster, while hiring without has produced only one success. I don't really consider myself some sage fortune teller for being able to see the path of least resistance in this particular situation.
Yeah, once he was hired, I pushed the 'I believe' button and hoped to be proven wrong...what else you gonna do at that point? But in the back of my mind, I had a pretty good idea where this would go.
ld a top flight staff after seeing multiple programs. I look at a 50 year life long assistance differently than I do a 36 year assistant with maybe 10 years of coaching. I haven't loss faith, but am seriously questioning if he has the stones to make the changes that need to be made, primarily with Rees. Does he have the approval? It's his head. If he wants to make a change and JS says tough shit, I'd resign on the spot. If Rees, for all intents and purposes, reports to JS, that ain't going to work.
