Link: Weekly Matchups: Notre Dame Hits the Road for Annual Navy Battle
Hopefully not as bad as Xerxes as Salamis, but i anticipate lots of frustration for Irish fans this weekend. With both teams running, there may only be 7 or 8 possessions for each team. Navy's defensive line will run stunts and slants to confuse blocking schemes, and blitz linebackers and safeties to force short yarding gains. Just the opposite of what Clemson did trying to defeat Alt and Company straight up. They only need 2 consecutive stops in a series to leave Pyne in 3rd and long. They vastly prefer to see him drop back to pass rather than hand off. Just four incompletions on third down cuts ND's scoring opportunities in half.
If the defense has a Clemson hangover and lets Navy get a couple of first half scores we will all have Stanford visions. I rate it very important that the defensive brain trust has seen the triple option on numerous occasions before.
