Driskell said yes, Rees could have called a few different plays, but mainly blamed Pyne for not properly dealing with what was going on. Is that coaching? Again, since none of us are there, we have no idea if Rees is a poor teacher or Pyne is a poor student. But so far, two pretty good football minds think it's the latter.

he cannot play to where he should be from Rees' perspective, we are stuck with him, even if he is struggling in the game. Pyne's inability to see the open secondary receiver or his need to force the pass to his primary receiver seems to be his downfall. His skillset is not awful. We don't know who is really to blame. I think it may be Pyne but I have never like Rees' attitude. I do like what I saw from Angeli in the spring(of course that may or may not matter) and I felt seeing him that he was very well trained to play the position in high school.
While I have been rooting for Pyne, I have concluded he is your standard "backup QB." Backup QBs are almost always a fan favorite, but there is there is a reason why they are the "backup QB." . They show glimpses of a being top performing QB but most cannot maintain that level of performance. This is my take on Pyne; and I am not sure that Buchner is that top QB performer based on what I have seen when he is on the field. After watching the Oregon v Washington game Saturday night - teams led by Bo Nix and Michael Penix - both proven portal transfers QBs. IMO if either of them were ND's QB this year our offense would be significantly better. I am hoping ND finds a similar proven QB in the portal this off season otherwise we may find next year that we are still looking for a top performing QB....
I'd think our run game would set up a lot of bootleg. Pyne is a huge problem, but Rees can't do anything to help the kid see the field?
He's doing the best he can but HE IS WHAT HE IS
possibly out of frustration (which would be understandable) or possibly thoughts of draft stock dancing in his head...or maybe he just realized it was overthrown too late to react. Either way, while it was a poorly thrown ball to a wide open guy, it was also a catchable ball on 3rd down if the All American lays out for it.

half. In fact I did not think he even had to lay out. I thought he kind of slowed down then realized he had to go harder.
