EVER!
12 total yards and people keep uttering excuses for the clown we call our OC.

And play like absolute shit against Marshall, Stanford and Navy? That seems to be on the coaching. This is truly a bi-polar team.
The #1 job of any coach is to put their players in the best position to be successful.
If the coach doesn't do that, that coach isn't a very good coach.
If you really think that Rees did anything in the 2nd half to enable Pyne's success, then you haven't watched a lot of football.
a good game in the 1st half? Good grief!
I'll say that I've not been impressed with our 2nd half adjustments all year long. But I bet both Golden and Tommy were pretty comfortable going into the 2nd half this week.
Lots of blame for the second half. My question, do we not allow QB to audible? If the D has a nose guard and 3 defenders on each edge, the middle is open for running. Instead of trying to pass against bad odds with 6 defenders coming off the edge, or our slow developing run plays that allow those same 6 defenders to hit the rusher at the handoff, why not audible to a straight dive or QB sneak? Seems the whole second half, Navy had a better chance of taking the handoff before our backs or hitting the QB before he could begin a pass play.
can't run that well when the pocket caves. He can't stand in and throw against it. And he honestly can't see when they get that close that quickly.
So, checking down to a back is a lot easier said than done for Pyne. A 6'4" QB can easily see the check down and flip it over the top of the line. Pyne can't see the check down with all the big guys towering over him and has a very hard time getting the ball over top of them when they are that close.
It is the same reason that I think he oftentimes locks onto a single receiver. It's hard enough for him to track a WR between the windows in between lineman and often too much for him to try to find another receiver in a window available to him at the time.
The more I watch, the more I realize how much Pyne's lack of height and associated inability to see the field plays into this.

Odd
Tommy was calling a great game the first half. But Tommys seems to have problems when the opposing coach makes adjustments to counter his scheme.
12 yards of offense is pathetic. I don't recall a ND team ever being held to 12 yards in a half. Maybe someone can offer up a game where ND had a worse offensive half.

failed to produce a single first down for the first 3 quarters of the game.
That, however, was against an elite opponent not Navy.

and I laughed too, to keep from crying. Worst was when after game the bitterest of rival fans felt so bad they weren't trash talking but were consoling us...terrible feeling.

What are Rees and Pyne going to do about it?
against a USC Pete Carroll team not against fricking Navy.

It was bad.

Pyne never keeps the ball, just like Rees never kept the ball, so a play designed to make the defense guess is one where they can always guess right against us

Rees is so far in over his head that he fully believes that lather, rinse and repeat is a requirement.

and misses a lot of throws. If he was able to make some of the throws he was incapable of the second half would have been different. Missed a wide open Mayer on an easy pass that would have been a really big play.
Can’t fault Rees for that except that he recruited a completely inept QB.
There are plenty of quick route options when you have Mayer and Evans. It's not one or the other, it's both.
2 step drop, ball out. HS shit actually.

you have been just as correct. Why should Golden get a pass?
