type throws over the line to wide receivers? He does make some intermediate and an occasional longer throw over the middle, but not a whole lot of throws to quick hitters over the middle. It seems as if most of our throws go to the outsides and I'm wondering if it is due to Pyne having difficulty of seeing the receivers or getting the throws over (or through) the line.
I started thinking about this concerning what I think has been a failure to utilize Styles Jr.'s talents to make the offense more dynamic. Not that Styles hasn't hurt himself in dropping some balls, but even they were on the perimeter. To me, Styles needs to get the ball at full speed running laterally in space across a defense to maximize his dynamic abilities. Typically, this can be with accomplished with quick hitters across the middle and RPOs. I like RPO offenses and I wish we'd see more. With the way Navy was playing, the middle was open all half for these types of plays and quick hitters like that would have been perfect given the quick pressure. I've given a good share of the blame to Rees for this and I'm reconsidering whether he is unable/unwilling/doesn't feel it's safe to call a lot of those plays with Pyne. Maybe that is putting him in a box in terms of playcalling.
Jayden Thomas is our best receiver at the moment, and that has been great to see. He is going to be a stud going forward. But Styles Jr. is a player that could add a ton of dynamic plays for us and whether it is the fault of Rees or shortcomings of Pyne, he is not getting the ball in situations to allow him to do that.
