if I was correct about an ND QB being injured in the last moments of a game just trying to run a clock out.
Somehow, I thought it was during a Navy game in the Willingham era.

Carlyle Holliday - He did get injured during a run, and Pat Dillingham had to finish the game, with bad results.
Brady Quinn - Right guy, wrong coach
As the others have stated, it appears you were referring to Jarious Jackson, who was supposed to take an intentional safety at the end of the LSU game. It was a true screwup, and one that cost us the USC game (and a Bowl Coalition game berth). Even though he was playing in the Gator Bowl, he was so hesitant during the first three quarters that we had already lost the game by then.

You're entirely correct that he did throw that winning TD against MSU (almost purely by accident), but when he came in relief of a banged up Holliday against BC, to say he had a bad performance is a bit of an understatement.
I can still firmly remember that awful shovel pass he tried to throw, that got picked off and run back for a pick-6.

I looked up Jarious Jackson after responding to this thread. He has had a long career in the CFL...playing then coaching...nothing earth shattering, but he is still there coaching, which is more than you can say for many.
Aw crap. Third place.

The offense was futile without JJ, who I think had put 39 points on board in win over LSU.

Jackson was so conscious of having just recovered from that injury that he played scared.
By the time he got over his feat, he was finally able to start racking up some points, but by that time (later in the 2nd half) it was already too late.
