Card may have more physical talent, but can it translate to the field? Can he pick up TR's offense? Is he a leader? Can he even get into ND?
Hartman doesn't have 5* tools, but he's above average physically and his intangibles make up for a lot of what he lacks physically, especially leadership.
Hartman has done what he's done at Wake Fricken Forest. Put ND talent and Oline around him and he'd be great.
Card may be great too, but he's a total unknown.
Card with 3 years of eligibility destroys all hope of Minchey and/or Carr working out or possibly even coming. He's a backup on a shit team to an overrated QB. Hartman is a starter with a decent career. If he wants to come and compete IMHO he's the best of the two considering everything, and everyone it will affect.
He has 3 years to play 2 because he came in Class of '20
I've given the breakdown on Hartman in detail but in essence we're getting a guy that's the same height as Book and Pyne, more mobile and better in the seams and post corners than Pyne but not quite the mobility or arm as Book...Book>Hartman>>Pyne
Card clogs the QB room. I believe he has at least two years left. Depending on how Minchey develops as well as Carr coming (at least at this point) in '24, it doesn't leave much room for Buchner. Assuming Card, that means in '24, the qbs could include Card, Buchner, Minchey, Carr, and Angeli. IMO, I don't think the '23 team is going to be NC-level, so I'd be focused on '24 and beyond.
Of course, Card could leave after one year but we know that Hartman has only one year left.
Given Hartman's overall experience, I would think he could serve as a mentor to the other qbs.
True, because of the eligibility but if Card has the year I think he would have he would likely declare for the Draft anyways...He is eligible because he was a Class of '20 recruit

Spot on!! The people who seem to prefer Hartman because of the 1yr stop gap which could be a Gift or a Curse! Card is certainly the better 4.5-5 * type talent while Hartman is a 3* talent who plays like a 4*.

Neither are ELITE. If they were, they would be staying or in the draft.
Most transfers have something to prove.
I am glad we are not grab bagging in the portal aisle, but being more deliberate and picky. Or it may be case that we are self selecting for ND types.
Either way ND isnt for everyone who can simply tackle or throw or kick.
The Texas OL couldn't handle the pressure the backup came in and wasn't effective throwing but just ran a few draw plays and scored two garbage time TDs....Bijan Robinson couldn't get loose he had about 20 carries for 60yds that game
