Lost in the P. Bowen drama, Christian Gray's the highest rated CB ND has got since 2015. Along

with Micah Bell and Morrison/Mickey from last year. Kudos to Freeman and Mickens. A massive jump in DB recruiting.

Unlike previous ND coaches (like Weis and Kelly) who have a strong group in one area or another, raising the DB group up to a far higher level has not resulted in less results elsewhere on the D. DL and LB groups are also up...especially the LB group.

Agreed, the corner situation is as promising as I've seen it in decades.

Speaking of D line, when Freeman first arrived and during last year’s FSU game, the D line was fast

And attacked, granted there were times of over pursuit/lost containment of the FSU QB who then burnt ND a few times with his legs. However, the game was the first time we saw a ND D line that attacked like that and it was like watching a Bama, Georgia, or LSU defense front 4. This year with Golden, it seemed like our D lineman were playing patty cake with the O lineman rather than bust through or shed the block. Not sure if that is by design or what, just an observation. Though Golden is the D Coordinator, you would think the D scheme is still Freeman’s but could be wrong. Going into the season, the D line was supposed to be a strength but my point is that they didn’t seem to dominate the way you would have expected. They obviously weren’t horrible or anything, but again, thought we would see more domination unless what they did was more by design/scheme.

For some reason, our DL doesn't seem to have developed. And specifically it doesn't seem they've gotten bigger. With the exception of Aidan Keanaaina, we don't have any big hog mollies. I expected Rylie Mills to be much bigger by now; same with Rubio. Rangy LBs are only valuable if the DLs can consume the middle. The USC game showed that 285 lb nose tackles simply don't get it done.

I'd love to see Mills and Rubio really step up, and I would love to see Fiske transfer in.

Mills, Rubio and Keanaaina are big and bad enough inside. I'd like it better if the Vyper would

just put a hand on the ground and be a DLineman instead of standing up. Play 4 down lineman and get a Rover athletic enough to stay on the field (Sneed) on passing downs and we'd be better off imo.

I think Freeman, Golden and Washington and do some self-scouting from this year and debrief to get a plan going forward.
