Poor judgment - throwing into double coverage, moving poorly in the pocket, getting sacked
All the things I've mentioned about him after watching him 5 years, refuses to step up in the pocket but throws nice short-medium balls...still an improvement over Pyne
known. Much better options in the portal.
Better options? Yes
Stick with Pyne? HEEEELL NO

3 more years I fully expect his stats to look about like Hartman's but likely wins more games.
Is this a joke??? Pyne throwing 100+ TDs in College...He is mediocre and playing for ND made him slightly above mediocre just watch him over at ASU if he wins that job from the walk on Bourguet.

He would be light years better than Pyne over the course of a whole season.

beginning of the game when he got blown up.

Why would you not take the one with more experience ? Minchey looks like a Mahomes so next years QB is likely a one year role.
proved he could win to get yet another average at best loaner, only creates more inconsistency. The only period ND has won in 25 years was when Book played 3 straight years.
*IF* they'd had any sort of talent around Quinn they probably would have won more but they didn't have talent or coaching then. Bouncing around 1 year QBs and underdeveloping them has been a disaster for ND.
Coming off of Book we had the opportunity to build a QB pipeline of consistency of 2 - 3 year starters and blew it. Now we're in the rent-a-QB market and we're taking the Corrola models. Twice, Coan and Hartman.

Anybody that thinks Pyne could do that is high.

showing nothing special. You are reaching
something Pyne struggled with all season. Pyne did a lot of good things and I'm not shitting on him, but Hartman is: bigger, faster, sees the field better, throws the ball better and has a quicker release...it's not really close, he is an upgrade.
Hartman's pedestrian performance tonight (in terms of stats) is on par with Pyne's best...we had 4 common opponents with Wake this season (Clem, BC, UNC, Cuse) why don't you compare the stats between Hartman and Pyne in these 4 games and then get back to me.
Pyne wasn't awful. But apparently he didnt want to compete or he'd still be there.
Pyne was ok. I don't think he's championship caliber. And Hartman is a one year loaner.
If he's better than Pyne great. If not, we get a new starter in 24 either way. Maybe Buchner will develop, maybe Minchey. Maybe Carr comes in and wins it. Best of both worlds in my opinion.
And Hartman wont drive away Buchner, Minchey or Carr with 1 year of eligibility.
There's a bit of deflated buyer's remorse going around. Just carry the company line and it will be okay.
I don't think Rees knows how to handle a dynamic QB. His offense is too vanilla and not creative enough to really use a talented QB. This is more of a guy with an average arm that can move a tad but nothing that's needed to really compete at the top 5 level in CFB today.
Thank God the oline finally came together.

I'd say Hartman is better than Book as a passer not as good of a runner. For a one year loaner. He's an upgrade and allows them to develop their recruits. And provides insurance against the disaster the QBs were last year, and injuries at the position. He doesn't dissuade Carr or Minchey from staying on board. Big picture.
option to take a flyer on IMO. If we were going the portal route. If he panned out there appeared to be upside. If not, well we, unfortunately, know what's left.
Who are likely their best chances for a QB who can win a championship. Whereas I'd not put Card or anyone in the portal in that category.
expect much out of a FR QB, especially not at ND with their bland O and Rees calling the plays. We went from "right kind of guys" and a doghouse to "trust".

If next year goes anywhere close to this year things will unravel quickly. So we can't wait for someone to maybe figure it out in 2024 at QB.
A new defense. The WR's were depleted. The oline took several games to gel with the new oline coach. We'll be in a better situation next year. Continuity is important. Plus, Freeman's LB's should be ready. Watts will be a good S. The CBs look solid. I'm far more confident about next year. I'm a little worried about the pass rush. Losing Foskey and all.
