What would make them leave is getting beat out by Minchey and/or Carr.
I think it's likely both of the older guys get passed by these younger guys.
Hartman is an upgrade to what we have had a QB. With ND talent around him and his experience he will flourish. I take the Hartman is a graduate student?

Slightly possible but Hartman is only around for one year...More likely whoever doesn't get the job in '24 will transfer out
If they transfer just because he comes, doesn't speak very well of their ability to compete imo...but I think they would at least compete for the job, see where dust settles and the decide.
Worse case scenario for both is they sit behind Hartman 1 year. Also, I think just like with Coan, they would try to get a Buchner package in there so he would still play.
It just tells me, coaching can't coach QB's at ND.
Again, Buchner a borderline 5 star QB should have been coached up to play
in the college game. Why hasn't that happened? Angeli, maybe not a 5 star guy
but by now, he should be a capable backup. Why is this not happening?
IF he's good enough he'll beat Hartman out, if he's not he won't.
If he does beat him out present evidence does suggest he's likely to make it through the season healthy.
So either we get a guy better than the more experienced version of the guy who was supposed to be the man this season, or Buchner steps up his game to a new level and wins job and we have a highly capable backup if he gets hurt.
Sounds like it puts our team in a better position for success to me.
I don't think Hartman's transfer says anything about Buchner other than that he is demonstrably injury prone and can't be counted on to stay healthy.
Angeli was recruited to be Buchner's backup that could potentially develop into a starter down the road. Not a year 2 starter. He's still on that path.
Significant anoint of football. Banking on him or Angeli would be really foolish. If one or both of them leave so bet it.

Would you have taken a Caleb Williams?

Though I doubt it.
If Buchner ends up doing very well in the Gator Bowl, where is ND and Freeman then?
Can no one on this coaching staff coach up a QB to their abilities. Buchner was a
5 star guy and ended up as the #71 player in the top 100. How poor at assessing
talent at that position are the ND coaches if he cannot be the guy.
Hartman is a decent QB and with a good OLine at ND he would probably have even
better stats.
And why would Hartman come to ND anyway? Are there promises being made?
